GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE-SPIRIT WEEK
Next week we celebrate The Great Kindness Challenge; is a global initiative to make the world a more kind, happier place and spread the message that kindness matters! Students will hear quotes of kindness and be inspired to complete kindness checklists, full of kindness acts they can do at school and home. To promote The Great Kindness Challenge, we will be having spirit days and a couple of kind projects that we hope students will participate in and enjoy.
Monday, Jan 23rd: Powered by Kindness! Let’s kick off the week of The Great Kindness Challenge dressing like Super Heroes!
Tuesday, Jan 24th: Linked Together by Kindness! This is a non-dress-up day where students will work on our school-wide kindness project: A GIANT chain of kindness acts!
Wednesday, Jan 25th: Peace, Love, and Kindness! Dress in your tie-dye, peace signs, hearts or hippie attire.
Thursday, Jan 26th: Linked Together by Kindness take 2! This is another non-dress-up day where students will finish their links for our Kindness Chain.

WATCH D.O.G.S
The PTA will be launching the Watch D.O.G.S.
(Dads of Great Students) program in January.
What are the goals of a Watch D.O.G.S. program?
1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ear to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Who are Watch D.O.G.S and how does Watch D.O.G.S. work?
Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official Watch D.O.G.s. school.
What do Watch D.O.G.S. do (while they at school)?
During the day, Watch D.O.G.S. may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, patrol the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well.
BREAKFAST IN THE CLASSROOM
Mornings can be really crazy! The alarm doesn’t go off, the kids don’t want to get up, there’s no time to eat breakfast before the bus comes or they’re just not ready to eat. If this sounds like your house, we have good news for you.
This year breakfast can be enjoyed in the classrooms at Fairfield Elementary! Take advantage of this option to ensure your child eats a nutritious breakfast. Recent studies show a link between nutrition and learning. A nutritious breakfast helps students be more alert so they can actively participate in class. Breakfast has vitamins and nutrients for a strong and healthy body.
Breakfast at school is affordable, too. A full breakfast costs less than convenience store items. If you qualify for free or reduced price meals, you also qualify for the breakfast program, with no additional paperwork. If you must pay, you’ll find a full price breakfast for $1.40, a reduced price breakfast for $0.30 and a free breakfast for no charge.
So take advantage of this opportunity to start the day on the right foot. Your child will find “Breakfast at School” provides not only a nutritious meal, but also a relaxed atmosphere and students are more settled when it’s time to begin the lessons for the day.
If you do not want your child to receive a breakfast, please instruct them not to select a breakfast in the mornings and/or notify their teacher. Students selecting a breakfast without any money will be charged for that breakfast. Student charge letters will be sent home each week.
