ALL BEGINNER BAND REHEARSAL FOR SPRING CONCERT

22-23 HMS Band Audition Results
We will not discuss audition results with anyone until after our spring concert on May 31. Please take a few days after results are posted to reflect before asking us to discuss them. Thanks in advance for adhering to this request!
A word about audition placements:
There is a place for every student in the HMS band. We take a long time listening to all parts of every audition, weighing extra factors, and trying to decide where each student will be adequately challenged but successful. Undoubtedly, some students will be thrilled with their placement, some will be upset, and many will turn out exactly like they thought they would. There is competition in band and there are only so many spots available for each instrument in each band. Part of our job as band directors is to make each band sound balanced and blended and the only way to do that is to have proper instrumentation in each band. Every band will do the same things, just on a slightly different timeline and with different levels of music.
HMS Bands Spring Concert
The Wind Symphony and Honors Band students will wear their contest uniform. The Beginner Band and Symphonic Band will need to dress up for this performance (think wedding guest attire) - boys need a collared shirt with a tie and slacks (no jeans), girls need a dressy blouse and dress pants, skirt and blouse, or a dress (the dress or skirt MUST COVER THE KNEES WHILE SEATED OR LEGGINGS MUST BE WORN UNDERNEATH). There is no color requirement for Symphonic Band and Beginner Band dress.

What Should We Be Practicing?
Practicing should happen daily to help build coordination and muscle memory and retain progress. Students should practice sitting in a real chair (preferably one that doesn't roll/spin), using a music stand, with a metronome. Please make sure woodwind players are properly swabbing out their instrument at the end of every practice session to keep their instruments clean!
Rhythm Rockers units 1-8, Musical Mastery warm-up exercises, pages 13-18 in Sound Innovations, Double Reeds units 10-12 in Boot Camp book, SCALES!!! We have started Scale Masters and will award a trophy to the first student in each class who passes off all of their scales. Continue to practice Terracotta and Danza Africana.
Symphonic Band: Longtones 1A, Concert Bb, F Ab, Eb, Db scales, rhythm chart 1-8, concert music
Honors Band: Longtones 1A, Set 1 Opt.1, Set 1 Opt. 4, Concert Bb, Eb, F, and Ab scales, rhythm charts 7-10, spring concert music, ensembles

Instrument Usage Fees in Skyward
We have had to send many instruments to the repair shop this year and this fee helps pay for those repairs and regular maintenance. Please help make sure we can continue repairing instruments as needed by submitting this district fee. These directions to submit an online payment in Skyward should help you with completing that payment. Please let Mrs. Becker know if you have questions.
