Roadrunner Update
May 2022
A note from our principal, Dr. Ayala
The end of this school year is fast approaching and we have a lot of events coming up.
The students have had a lot of fun this year with the Valentines Dance, Fun Run, Easter Egg Hunt, Bowling Field Trip and now our Track and Field Day in May. We appreciate your support when you make donations and come to our events. Our children are still young and we need to make their experience in elementary school a good one! So, thank you for all of your help in making these events happen!
Next year, we will be focusing on academics with lots of enrichment activities incorporated into their learning. We want the children to have hands-on learning experiences such as gardening, science experiments, stargazing and more. Thank you for a great school year!

As the end of the year wraps up, we are working hard on building fluent readers that have a love for reading. Our students have been busy reading all types of genres of books in our school library. You can continue this love of reading through the summer by enrolling your child in the upcoming Grants Public Library Challenge when they offer it this summer. Thank you for entrusting us with your child, working with us this school year, and making it a great year for students.

Our class has been busy testing for the majority of April. Fifth graders were tested on ELA, Math, and Science. Thankfully most of the students have completed their assessments.
Our class uses Reflex Math daily to maximize their fact fluency. Many students have found creative ways to compete with their classmates. By doing this, their interest level has increased with the program. Currently, 16 students fall in the range of 90% - 100% mastery of their multiplication and division facts.
Please continue to check Class Dojo for classroom information.

What a journey it has been for these cheerful 5th Graders! In spite of the challenges, they're determined to finish and accomplish tasks given to them. In the photo, it depicts how resilient they are to carry out classroom projects. That being said, these 5th graders have so far achieved the Attendance Travelling Trophy in the third quarter, attended the First Archery Tournament, participated in the Read Across America Day, and went on a field trip at the bowling alley. Their teacher probably thinks that they're ready to be promoted to 6th Grade. To put it briefly, KUDOS to 5th Graders of Mr. Jon's Class 2021-2022!

We are proud to announce we will be having Sixth Grade Graduation on May 25th. We will include a ceremony, awards, BBQ, a slideshow, yearbook and signing. Parents are invited to the ceremony and awards that will be held on our lawn (by the drop off lane). Each student will be asked to donate a specific item to the BBQ. Please be looking out for that list coming soon.
We would like to thank all the parents who donated water, fruit, and ice to track and field. It was an exciting and fun day. Your donations made the day ever more special.
We will be walking to the middle school on May 5th. Please be sure that your student has comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen. Unfortunately parents are not able to join us as the students will be visiting live classes. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Finally, the sixth grade team is proud of the progress your students have made this year. We would like to thank you for sharing your student with us. This truly was a unique year.
