The Eucharistic community of Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School
focuses on Christ-centered values and develops the unique potential of each student
through a rigorous and engaging curriculum.
The Death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
It is with sadness that we mourn the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI who dedicated his life to Christ and the mission of the Church. We join Pope Francis and Catholics in our diocese and across the globe in prayer for our former pope, and we are grateful for his leadership and wisdom.
A prayer for the soul of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI (Vatican Media)
Father, eternal shepherd,
hear the prayers of your people for your servant Benedict,
who governed your Church with love.
In your mercy, bring him with the flock once entrusted to his care
to the reward you have promised your faithful servants.
May he who faithfully administered the mysteries
of your forgiveness and love on earth,
rejoice with you forever in heaven.
Amen.

A Note from the Principal
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I am sure that getting out of bed for all of us was a challenge this week, but I am so happy to see our students once again! Our students have done a great job getting back into the swing of things after Christmas break. I think all of us will sleep very well this weekend.
We are excited about the return of three social-emotional programs for our third, fourth, and fifth grades this school year. Mr. David Mack from McKeon Education Group presented "Fostering Friendships" to our third graders in October and November. In January and February, he will facilitate the program "Connections" for our fourth graders, and after that, he will present "Honor and Harmony" for our fifth graders. "Connections" was paid for through a grant from the state of Ohio, and the other two programs will be paid for by the Blessed Sacrament Ladies Guild. Thank you, Ladies Guild, for funding these two important programs!
On another note, January is a busy month as priority enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year begins next week and several Open House events take place at the end of the month. You, our current families, are the greatest ambassadors for our school. Please share our events with friends and family and spread the good news of SPB! Through our New Student Referral Program, school families can earn a $100 tuition credit for referring a new student who enrolls at Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School. Several families have earned tuition credits through this program.
Peace and blessings,
Diane Raguz, Principal

Magic Gives Back: Rick Smith Magic Show
Happy 2023 SPB Families!
SPB is excited to present Magic Gives Back, a Las Vegas Grand Illusion and Interactive magic show, providing a truly unique experience you won't want to miss. Magic Gives Back, is an education-focused entertainment group, to help raise funds for schools. The show is scheduled for Saturday, 2/11 at 7:00 pm (Mayfield HS Auditorium), presented by Cleveland's own award winning, YouTube sensation and 5 time Guinness World Record Holder, Magician/Illusionist Rick Smith Jr. Rick and his team guarantee an evening full of fun entertainment for audience members of all ages that simply can’t be found anywhere else, so be sure to get your tickets before they sell out!
Ticket Sales and Donations are now open and can be purchased online, with tiered prizes for students to win. Rick Smith Jr. is coming to SPB next week, 1/11, for a school kickoff assembly. Check your child(ren) take home folder for show materials.
Magic Gives Back raises funds in two ways, (1) Ticket Sales & (2) Donations. We are asking all students (and parents) to participate in order to maximize our school fundraising potential. Each student will create a profile on the MGB platform (https://www.magicgivesback.com/student-registration). A new page from Ultimate Raise will open (partnered with MGB). Once the profile is complete, simply send a minimum of 10 (pre-written) emails to family, friends, co-workers, etc, promoting ticket sales for the show and asking for donations. The more YOU help us promote, the more money we will raise for SPB! Along the way, students will earn prizes, based on their selling success. It's that easy!
We Hope to See You at the SHOW for what will be a Great KNIGHT Out with SPB Families and Friends!

From the Pastor's Perspective
Blessings and Prayers to you - Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas break. It was certainly a memorable week with our Christmas & New Year's Masses and excitement in the Family Life Center vestibule. I'm sure you enjoyed reading about it all in the Paschal Life email.
This is a kind reminder about a few things coming up:
- Monday night, 6:30 pm in the Eymard Room of the Family Life Center, we'll have our annual town hall meeting. This year's focus is on our Catholic school's finances and announcement about our tuition increase plan.
- Sunday, February 5, 12:30 pm in Father O'Brien Hall (park in the horseshoe parking lot), we will have a brainstorming over the renovation of this part of our campus. We received a generous starter gift to renovate the hall. What would you like OBH to look like in the future? Come join us!
- Monday, February 6 after the school day at 2:35 pm in church, I'll be leading a new round of altar server training. Join some of our deans of serving. Servers may join now, shadow on weekends, watch the online video and grow into this ministry from 2nd grade through adulthood. With our fine 8th graders - we are encouraging altar serving through high school years for the service hours needed in high school.
- Saturday, February 11 - Rick Smith Jr.'s magic show for our school. See elsewhere in the newsletter to register.
Thanks for being part of the SPB Faith Family! We have so many awesome things coming this early part of 2023 - including our parish mission with Fr. Tom McCarthy OSA back by popular demand. You can't miss a week here at SPB!
Christmas blessings & Prayers -

New Altar Server Training in 2023
Please serve God and our community by having our youth learn and grow in service and the Mass! After school, in church until 3:30 pm, join with the other altar servers and Father Lane in learning how to be in the ministry of altar serving, a noble, Catholic tradition here at Saint Paschal Baylon! Join the ranks of Paschal Proud altar servers by seeing the video online and participating in the training Mondays, February 6, 13, 27 & March 6. Installation of new servers will be Sunday, March 19 at the 8:30 Mass or when it is convenient for your family to participate in the liturgy of installation. For those that need it, free extended day will be provided by Father Lane. Register with Katherine Mailer, coordinator at katmailer416@gmail.com. All students in Grades 2 through 8 are eligible.
Playground Volunteers Needed-Kindergarten to Grade 4
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:10 am-12:55 pm. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!
Grade 4 families are asked to volunteer in January, Grade 3 in February, Grade 2 in March, Grade 1 in April, Kindergarten and anyone who would like to help in May/June.
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:10 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting the students to and from the school doors. Volunteers will be with one school staff member each day to help direct.
Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the following links to sign up: Grade 4, Grade 3, Grade 2, Grade 1, Kindergarten
