On the TRAIL - for Mustang Families
March 29-April 2 - REOPENING week! Welcome Back Mustangs!
We are MT - MUSTANG STRONG!
Anti-Asian racism, hate speech and violent attacks on Asian Americans has increased in recent months but unfortunately, many of these incidents are not being reported. As part of our Stand for the Elimination of Racial-Discrimination we encourage the use of our online reporting system, which was developed out of the racist incidents that targeted our African American and Black youth. We encourage all our students and their families, as well as, our staff and teachers to help Stop AAPI Hate by reporting any incidents of hate they may experience or witness!
We are MT – a COMMUNITY with RESPECT, INTEGRITY and CONFIDENCE and we value all of our students, their human rights and their right to education in a safe environment. Please help us RESPECT the TRAIL and all of our Mustangs. If you see something, say something!

EGUSD recognized March 21 as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Racism, xenophobia and intolerance are problems prevalent in all societies. But every day, each and every one of us can stand up against racial prejudice & intolerant attitudes. Be a human rights champion, #fightracism and #StandUp4HumanRights

Welcome Back Mustangs!
This week has three different schedules and will be the first time we are doing concurrent learning. We are confident that we are ready but as with anything new, we appreciate the grace and patience for ourselves and each other as we adjust to a new way of teaching/learning yet again this year.
There is nothing like having students and teachers together in the classroom and we are so glad to see this opportunity coming back.
Let's keep following all safety protocols and keep each other safe so this can continue working toward getting ALL of our Mustangs back on campus.
Together, we can make this the best for our students who deserve only the best we can give! We've got this - we are MT!

Attendance Update:
- teachers will be able to distinguish in Synergy who was present in person and who was present via distance learning now
- students who stay at home on a day they were supposed to be in person can log in to class so that they don't come to school with symptoms but it will be noted they logged in from home rather than in person
- after the first 2 weeks, if an in person student has not been attending, the school will call to find out if you have changed your mind and wish to be distance learning only
-tours were completed Friday, March 26th for those who rsvp'd
- in advocacy all students will complete the Orientation lesson on March 29th
-family orientation is March 30th (see above for link)
-SBAC testing in April - we are currently working on the schedule and will be in touch with special schedules and proctoring information ASAP
Seniors and Graduation - we know: Virtual graduation is happening, Golden 1 is still reserved for May 24th at 11am and a social distance in person if not at Golden 1 is being planned as well but we don't know the dates and details (questions remain - will seniors stay with us until the last day of school, when will EGUSD make the decision and more)
Athletes and those in need of in person tutoring -
-practices begin at 2:40 at the earliest
JUST APPROVED -
this applies only to those athletes or struggling students who are in person on a given day
*these in person students with a specific reason to remain will have to check in with an admin or campus supervisor in a location between the gym and MP
- they have sports or a teacher who has set up tutoring in distance learning support time in their classroom with the student
*students will eat outdoors social distanced in a specified location after all other students have left
*they will then be supervised in the classroom or other agreed upon location with the teacher or athlete supervisor to work on distance learning support and homework until practice
*any who are not athletes but were in person distance learning support must exit at 2:40
NO distance learning students may come to campus without an appointment at the front office and athletes can only come for practice times if they are distance learning
NOTE: there is no locker room to change in AND there is no ability to freeze the food from meals they may be bringing home at this time - if that changes, it will be explained to athletes and teachers
*Distance Learning Support is still available via zoom for all who grab and go - just arrange it with your teacher to get the support you need
Athletic Competitions
-guidance may change but has not yet
-spectators are immediate family only and at this time we cannot have additional spectators unfortunately but if that changes we will send something out
-other seasons will start April 5 but there are still no indoor sports at this moment
Go Mustangs! and thank you to the coaches and Coronado for making this an opportunity for our student-athletes
Family Selection for 4 days a week in person
- this week there will be a way for families to request 4 days a week
- nothing will take place until April 13th
- more information will come as this was new on Friday - we do know that space will matter to the ability to have anyone 4 days a week and that once we have some 4 days, we will have a time frame (example - 2 weeks) to see how it is going before we accept requests for another change
Wellness Reminders
We want everyone to be well so here are some reminders of resources available in the picture at bottom of newsletter. We also have our own Employee Assistance Program: 1 (800) 646-9923.

Respecting each other's safety - following the protocols
Help us to be safe by:
- wearing the mask correctly (over nose and mouth)
- We must wear them on campus now. See past emails about when/where and how to properly wear the mask.
Let's be sure to follow all safety protocols including but not limited to:
- use the daily checklist and do not come to campus if any experiencing any symptoms
- wear masks when on campus
- social distance 6ft or more
- the offices are still closed but will help via phone, email and appointment
These will still be in place even if you are vaccinated.
Note: No food drop offs or other items please - we do not have the resources to be able to get items to your students
What if our students need a Chromebook or have an issue with a current one?
The student/family should contact the front office during work hours 7:30-4 Mon-Fri (except holidays)
916-688-0050
Individuals will be told when and how to pick up a Chromebook on a case by case basis. It will not occur at distribution for term 4.
Senior Information - Class of 2021!
Seniors see Synergy emails from Mr. Grivel and Ms. Green for vital information throughout the rest of the year
Graduation updates
Seniors, please look out for each other and make sure your friends are aware of the important deadlines that are coming up.
Cap and Gown Distribution
If you missed it, there is an opportunity to pick it up at the textbook distribution this week (see info above)
If you haven't ordered your cap and gown yet, or secured a loaner, you should do that right away.
If you have questions about a previous order or any other questions regarding your cap and gown, please contact our Jostens’ rep directly at 916-389-0018 or pat.cummings@jostens.com.
The direct link to order a cap/gown/tassel or to order the loaner package is: https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/productDetail/1434504/Monterey-Trail-High-School/-/1442149569/CATALOG_REPOSITORY/Cap-and-Gown-Unit/1486506788/ The entire cap/gown/tassel package must be returned after the ceremony if you order a loaner.
One of the requirements for either a virtual graduation or an actual event (hopefully both), is that students will be in the designated cap and gown.
Emails needed for Graduation Submission
Urgent: we need Seniors to provide a current student email, that you can check often so you don't miss important notifications.
To enter your email in Synergy, parents must log in to ParentVUE
- select “Student Info” and click the button labeled “Edit Information.”
- In the field for “Student’s Email,” enter the student email address.
- Remember to click “Save Changes” after entering the email address.
