November News
A Note from Mrs. Phillips
Dear Charles Families:
How quickly our months pass by and our seasons change. Our month was filled with many fun activities. Here are just a few highlights:
- Senator Raatz visit and donation of a new flag for our lobby
- Pink-Out to show support, building-wide, for Mrs. Day
- Red Ribbon Week and the new partnership with Drug Free Wayne County
- 95% of our Chargers are working at or above grade level in Lexia Reading
- 56% of students, so far, are on track to achieve grade-level proficiency in Dreambox
- Northside Church of Christ donated a package of candy to each Charger!
- Charles received the Stamm-Koechlein Family Foundation Grant to support our students and staff through many different initiatives including SEL, PBIS, and professional development.
Charles students have been targeting their areas of need on reading and math skills using adaptive programs called Lexia and Dreambox. At the end of October, 113 certificates were awarded to students that completed levels in Lexia. Ninety-five students are currently working at or above their grade level. In Dreambox, our Chargers are averaging 3.2 lessons per week. Six classrooms have 100% of their students logging in, and 5 classrooms have 90%-95% logging in. Fifty-six students are on track to achieve grade-level proficiency at the end of the year. Every month, a student is recognized on our data bulletin board in each grade level for moving the most levels in both programs. We are proud of the progress our students have made and hope to see more progress with your help!
You can support your child at home by logging into the sites to monitor and celebrate the progress. While our time is limited at school with early dismissal, we try to allow students time to practice during Math and Reading Success. If your child has free time at home, he or she is welcome to work on both web-based programs. See the parent newsletters below.
Reminder: Please make sure to send your child to school with 2 masks. We are finding more students arriving to school without a mask. We are trying to help them think about their mask as part of their dress code. A good reminder would be to keep your clean mask by your backpack each night. EVERYONE is doing a fantastic job following our mask policy. I am proud of them all!
If your student will be missing school, please always call 973-3441. During this pandemic time, we need to make sure we understand why your student it out. If he/she has a doctors note, please return with your child upon their return. Thank you for notifying us of any absences, it helps us keep our records up to date and accurate.
