The students in the ELEMEnTS Program have been very busy so far this year, sharpening their creative thinking, critical thinking, and technology skills. Students have explored digital citizenship and cybersafety, and have written computer programs using code.org, Scratch, and Java Script. How to evaluate the validity of a website was also a topic of study, and students enjoyed trying to figure out if a website was a real site or a hoax site containing misinformation. Logic activities and Calcudoku competitions are ongoing. Third grade ELEMEnTS students are currently busy with learning about simple machines, building levers and pulleys, as well as calculating gear ratios and mechanical advantage. Fourth grade ELEMEnTS students are learning about how various forces affect bridges, and are using that that information to build bridges that need to support a specific amount of weight without sagging or breaking. Robots have invaded the fifth grade ELEMEnTS class, and students are writing software programs to control them!
