HPES Weekly Newsletter
08/26/2019
Thank-you!
WOW! What a busy week! It’s exciting to see you getting to know your students and building those key relationships! My favorite part of the day is when I welcome our students to our campus at the front door in the mornings and seeing how excited they are to come to school! That speaks wonders on how you are building relationships with them. This will be a busy week with parent orientation no doubt, but looking forward to a 3-day weekend! Thank you for passionately serving our students and parents. Let me know how we can support you.
Surplus & Class Additions
We have a surplus of 1 teacher position in 2nd grade monolingual. We will absorb one 2nd grade class, going down from 4 monolingual classes to 3. Second-grade students will receive a letter on Monday, and parents will also be notified by phone. Second-grade students will begin with their new teacher on Tuesday this week. Ms. Zeider has volunteered to move.
Kinder Monolingual is on the list as needing one monolingual teacher and Ms. Zeidler has graciously volunteered to teach that kinder class. Please welcome Ms. Zeidler to our Kinder team! Ms. Zeidler will be working on getting her new kinder classroom-ready so they may begin before the end of this week. She will be moving into the Kinder Science Lab, to be closer to her team. Please lend a helping hand if you are able to, I know she and the kinder team will appreciate it.
Our 5th grade DL vacancy is being filled through the surplus process. Please welcome Ms. Maria Cespedes Villacreces to our 5th-grade team! She will be informing her current students Monday, and begin transitioning to our campus this week with a start date of 09/03. She will also need help getting settled in and making it her own, please welcome her to our campus and lend a helping hand if you can.
Classroom Schedule
Please post your classroom schedule outside your classroom door by the end of this week. Make sure that it is your individual class schedule and not the master schedule. Please indicate recess time, library and computer lab as well. This will help us and any visitors when completing classroom observations/powerwalks or simply looking for a student in your class. Thank-you.
STAR 360 Assessment
This year, there is a big push to make sure we get valid data from our universal screener Star 360. We need to make sure we are giving the test with fidelity and that the same expectations are set in all classrooms. We will be putting a set of directions in your mailboxes. There is a directions script that everyone will receive for all the tests that your grade level gives. Please use these directions. Also, since this is a testing situation, please have students have a book to read after they are done testing. Students should not go onto other websites or games as it tends to make other students feel like they should rush through their test.

Kudos
- Shout out to our AMAZING EA’s, for your help with morning and afternoon duty! We couldn’t do it without your help!
- Shout out to Mr. Lubman and Nurse Henderson for handling a stressful medical situation last week. Mr. Lubman's student awareness allowed him to assess a situation and respond in a quick yet calm manner while seeking help from Nurse Henderson. This teamwork was essential to ensure the student's well being. Thank-you Nurse Henderson, and Mr. Lubman for passionately serving our student.
- Shout out to our Special Education team for working endlessly to ensure our students' needs are met. As you know we are short-staffed, and our SpEd. team has gone above and beyond while still making themselves available to interview. We are working on providing you some relief soon,
