PORT ANGELES SCHOOL DISTRICT
NEWS AND NOTES - January 2024
As the temperature drops, we want to remind families how we communicate school closures or delays:
--Expect emails, robocalls, and text messages from us.
--Stay tuned to our district website and Facebook for updates!
Make sure we have your latest contact info at your child's school to ensure you get all these messages. No messages? That means school is open and busses are operating on normal routes.

Medical Detective Class at Stevens
Medical Detective students in this innovative SMS course play the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose disease. They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, dissect a sheep brain, investigate disease outbreaks, and explore how a breakdown within the human body can lead to dysfunction.
JANUARY IS SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH!
Let's take a moment to express our gratitude to the dedicated members of our school board who work tirelessly to shape the future of our education system. Their commitment, passion, and hard work make a significant impact on the lives of students, teachers, and the entire community.
Thank you for your unwavering support in ensuring quality education and fostering a positive learning environment. Let's celebrate our school board members this month and show them the appreciation they deserve!
Last night our school board welcomed our new student representative to the school board Rayin Blewett. We also celebrated our PASD Students of the Month from Stevens Middle School: Storey Schmidt and Noah Oberly.

Mutsu City, Japan Junior Ambassadors Program Returns to Port Angeles
We are so excited to share the news that the Mutsu, City Junior Ambassadors have returned to Port Angeles. Mutsu City Junior Ambassadors have been visiting Port Angeles every January since 1998. The last visit happened in January 2020, when we celebrated the 25th anniversary of our Sister City relationship. Over the years, over 250 Japanese junior high school students have shared a weekend with Port Angeles host families and spent a day at Stevens Middle School attending classes and presenting a culture fair.
With the recent proclamation from the City of Port Angeles re-affirming its dedication to our joint educational, cultural, and economic exchange programs, we can look forward to further Mutsu City opportunities in the future. Continued support from PIRA, the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce, the Field Arts & Events Hall, and Peninsula College help make this program successful.
Thank you goes out to all of the staff, students, and families from our community and Mutsu City who made this amazing opportunity a reality.
