Seagull Express
October Edition
From the Principal's Desk- Dr. Penny Rogers
We are having a very fast paced and exciting fall here at school. Of course, opening the nature trail to students and taking almost everyone to Bob Jones University for Challenge Day were big events, but lots of other things are happening in our classes. In the area of Environmental Science students are planting and growing all kinds of things, and we have adopted a number of new creatures. Daily Living Skills groups are working on a recycling project and on cooking some of the things being grown on campus; and in Art, students will be making beautiful objects to sell from recycled material. PTA and SIC are up and running, and plans are underway for the spring ‘Run, Walk and Roll”. We have already hosted numerous tours this year; are looking forward to getting started with Reading Buddies from Christ Church School; and, have enjoyed having Skeeter Powell and his dog, Chief, coming for regular visits with our students.
In coming weeks we will have the Children’s Little Theater group here to perform; and a little later, the Uptown Brass Band will be coming for a short concert. On October 31st we will celebrate Halloween with “Trick or Treating” and a “Monster Bash” party, and then we will be into a flood of holiday activities.
It truly is a great time to be a part of Washington Center and we continue to be grateful for the support we receive from parents and community members. Best wishes to each of you and our thanks always for giving us the opportunity to work with our amazing students.
