What We Are Learning Now
Laser Cutting and Etching
Students are wrapping up laser etching acrylic key chains and upcycled glass jars. For the acrylic keychains, students manipulated shapes in Adobe Illustrate utilizing the direct selection tool along with cutting tools to design an animal. Students learned how to download fonts and customize lettering along with using the rotary tool to transform used jars into something that can be functional again.

Students have finished their 4 intro projects to Premiere Pro and After Effects. Now students are working on choice projects. They can use the green screen to create a video of a magic carpet ride. They can use masks to create a light saber video. They can add scratches and audio to create a silent movie. They can also use a parent pick whip to create a hologram video.
Video samples are posted on our class Weebly- www.specialeffectssage.weebly.com Your child should know the password.
The Stock Market Challenge
The students did a fantastic job competing in the Stock Market Game; the NIC was well represented in the rankings. Since concluding the competition, students have reflected on their portfolios and a lot of analysis has gone into what worked and what could have been done differently. Many students found that they saved too much of their money and should have spent more!! Students are finishing the Unit of Study by learning about compound interest and when it is a friend and when it is an enemy.
Stock Market Challenge 1st Place Winners
In Textile Studio, students have met a wide variety of personal goals. Students have been working all semester on work such as personal wallets, shorts, scrunchies, quilts, hats, and numerous other products. We have all been proud of the way students have used their time for powerful learning opportunities, most importantly trouble-shooting independently and reflecting on their work.
Sage Startup students developed a business plan, manufactured a product, created a branding and marketing package and finally sold their product with all proceeds going to their chosen charity.
