Welcome to 2021!

We are back to virtual school on Monday, January 4. You may have heard we have a new schedule starting in FEBRUARY! Please check the AACPS Website for more information. Ms. Hicks will be scheduling a Coffee with the Principal in the next few weeks in order to answer your questions. In the meantime, please continue to encourage your student to participate in class, turn on their cameras and complete their classwork. You can utilize Parent Portal to monitor their grades and students are encouraged to attend Office Hours if they have any questions or need to redo assignments.

Happy New Year!

Sad Goodbyes and a Warm Welcome

Ms. Almonte, Spanish Teacher, has moved with her family to another state and is no longer able to continue teaching at Wiley H. Bates Middle school. While we are excited for her to start her new adventure, we are sad to say goodbye, but we wish her the best in her new home.

With all goodbyes come new hellos. Please help us welcome Mr. Jefferson Ruiz to the Cougar family. Mr. Jefferson Ruiz comes to us as a graduate from the University of Maryland. He is excited to meet all his new students and families. His first day will be January 4, 2021.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. HIcks at 410-263-0270. We appreciate your grace and patience with this transition.

Family LIfe and Human Sexuality

The Family Life/Human Sexuality portion of our Health classes is coming up after the Winter Break. If you would like to opt your student OUT OF the Family Life/Human Sexuality portion of their health class, please complete this GOOGLE FORM (GOOGLE FORM IN SPANISH). Forms must be submitted by January 8th. If you child HAS permission to participate in the Family LIfe & Human Sexuality Lesson, you do not need to complete the form.

The Polar Bear Plunge has been a major fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Maryland for 25 years. This year, they are facing an uphill battle as the plunge will not be able to take place at Sandy Point State Park and will be completely virtual this year. We are inviting our Bates family to join our plunge team! It is free to join and you simply decide how you'd like to 'plunge!' If you raise at least $50, you get an amazing sweatshirt too. The best part is that it is an easy fundraiser that you can email to friends and family or post on your social media pages and it is for a great cause!

BONUS: If our Bates Blizzard Plungers raise $5,000 or more, Ms. Hicks will plunge into the frosty Magothy River and record it for all to see!!!!

If you are interested, follow these steps to join our team:

You can freeze for a great cause AND help us get Ms. Hicks in the river 🙂
