Odessa Brown will be offering flu vaccines at school starting in October. Students must be registered with the clinic and scheduled for an appointment to receive the vaccine. Vu Tran (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) is available Mondays and Tuesdays at school if you would like to schedule for the vaccine. Please contact the school-based health center at 206-310-6913 to make an appointment or to register your child.

A message from BHIS PTA
The Read-A-Thon needs you!
The PTA is reaching out to see if you could help with this year's Read-A-Thon, which will take place Nov. 17, 2023.
The following roles needed:
Logistics - Print and deliver donation envelopes to global leadership team to distribute to teachers. Purchase and store snacks for distribution.
Communications - Work up all communications with teachers and parents to include translations in Spanish, Mandarin, Taishanese and Cantonese.
Volunteer Coordinator - Work with family members and local authors to schedule readers and other volunteers in the classroom for the day of the Read-A-Thon. Acquire volunteer readers and other readers ~5 weeks ahead to get through volunteer registration process.
Toby Clarkin is happy to answer any questions and describe the positions to volunteers.
This year's greatest hope is that we could get volunteers from the Latin@, Black and Chinese family groups this year!
To sign up to volunteer or for more information, please contact Toby Clarkin at tobeyclarkin@yahoo.com
Help us reach our goal for the school supply fundraiser!
The PTA wants to thank all of you who have donated to our school supply fundraiser! With the help of you and our community partners we are only $5,000 away from reaching our goal. If you are able to, please consider donating to help us reach our goal of $15,000. We want to be able to provide school supplies to every student next year too! What is a Parent Liaison?
At BHIS, you might have heard people talking about parent liaisons and may be wondering, what is a parent liaison? And how does that differ from the PTA family council chairs? While we all work together to make BHIS an amazing and welcoming place for all, the family council members work more with the PTA while parent liaisons work more directly with the school and families. The role of a parent liaison is to be the bridge between home and school by providing outreach to families to ensure clear communication about what is happening at BHIS, especially for those families furthest from educational justice and who have historically been marginalized. Parent liaisons also assist with providing resources or connecting families to BHIS's own Family Support Worker Margarita Halverson.
BHIS is lucky to have 5 hard working parent liaisons,
Pingping Tan Chinese Families
Tuyet Dao Vietnamese Families
Sendi Tinoco - Cordova Latin@ Families
Cindy Barco Latin@ Families
Robert Valentine Black Families
While each of these parent liaisons handle a focused caseload, many of you may not know that our liaisons are available to each and every family within BHIS. So, if you ever have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please feel free to reach out in passing or via email. Our BHIS family is only strong when we are all informed and every voice has the opportunity to heard! In future Tiger Telegrams, we look forward to sharing more about each parent liaison!
