Oak Hills Newsletter
Week of October 31 and November 7
Message from the Principal
Dear Oak Hills Families,
We are rolling into short weeks of school this month, but Parent Teacher Conferences are one of the most important weeks of the school year as staff form partnerships with you. The conference will be utilized to share information about your child's progress--all the positives and areas of growth. Please continue to share information that will be helpful with supporting your student throughout the year.
Many families have signed up for conferences. If you need support with setting up a conference or need to respond to a teacher's message or voicemail, please call the main office and Ms. Hosack or Ms. Powers can help with your questions.
A reminder that our PE (Mr. Herd and Mr. Van) and Music teachers (Ms. Boling and Teacher Sally) will be available to meet with you in the gym during conferences. If you have time, please stop by or you can arrange a meeting with them in person or via zoom. If you would like to connect with Resource teachers (Ms. Smith, Mr. Dignan), ELD teacher (Ms. Bermudez), School Psychologist (Mr. Sickler), Speech Pathologist (Ms. Purser), please email them to set up a time to connect.
If you need to connect with a member of the Care Team (Ms. Ray-counselor, Ms. McCarty--student success coach, Bri Correa--social worker, Ms. Do--principal, Ms. Hansen-assistant principal, Heather O'Leary -School nurse), please call/email/swing by the office and we will try to connect you with someone.
Look forward to seeing you this week!
Sincerely,
Ms. Do

Library Statistics
Our School Goal is to check out 20,000 books. As of Oct. 28th we have checked out a total of 4045!
OBOB Resources
Our Cedar Mill Library has many OBOB resources. One is audiobooks and downloadable e-audeobooks. I encourage the students to reread and listen to the books to pick up details from the stories for battles. I have also encouraged the students to keep a notebook where they can write down details and study these before the battle competitions. Another resource is practice battles in December. Registration is required.
In December, we are planning to open our library during lunch for teams to come practice for battles using the practice questions from the Cedar Mill Library. We need volunteers for these practice battles. Please email Ms. Larsen if you are interested.

PTO presents After-School Club Opportunities Update
We are excited to start having some after school clubs back in the school! Here is some information about the steps needed to get a club rolling (After school club info). Proposals for clubs for our first session need to be turned in before Nov 7th.
Right now, we have some interest for a Pokemon Trading Club and a Chess Club for 4th and 5th graders. Registration forms for our first session starting November 30 will be coming out soon. These clubs are entirely parent run so if you are interested in being involved, please reach out to pto@oakhillspto.org.
There will be class limits to each club. If the slots fill up quickly, we will communicate to the community about recruiting more advisors to supervise students. There will be new sessions offered every two months.

Proposed Local Option Levy 2022 (REPEAT)
On November 8, 2022, voters will have the opportunity to decide whether to renew a 5-year local option levy. If passed, the proposed levy renewal would fund approximately 286 teaching positions, maintain class sizes and help prepare students for post-high school endeavors. The proposed levy renewal is projected to raise approximately $39-$43 million annually; over a 5-year period, the proposed levy renewal would raise about $205 million.
If passed, the proposed levy renewal would continue the existing tax rate of $1.25 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
If the proposed levy renewal does not pass, the levy rate would not be assessed. The District would not receive about $39 million to fund 286 teaching positions, maintain class sizes and help prepare students for post-high school endeavors, starting in the 2023-2024 school year.
The current local option levy expires on June 30, 2023.

Talented and Gifted (TAG) Opportunities (Repeat)
Nominations for TAG
Every year students are considered for Talented and Gifted services in the Beaverton School District. These services are provided by your child's classroom teacher(s). Academic, intellectual, behavioral, learning, and/or performance information is considered before a student is identified for TAG services.
If you think your child might qualify for TAG services, you may wish to complete the Parent Information Form that is available in our school’s office or linked here. Completing this form gives our school TAG Committee more information about your child, but it is not required. All qualified students will be considered regardless of the form’s completion.
Please complete and return the Parent Information Form to your child’s teacher.
Nomination forms are available on the TAG Website.

Changes to Going Home Plans (Repeat)
Absences and dismissal changes can be reported to us via the Oak Hills website. There are buttons where you can click and report an absence or changes to how your child will be going home. For dismissal, please report the changes before 1:30 PM since this is when we will be delivering the information to our teachers and students. Thank you in advance for utilizing this communication tool. It will free up our phone lines for families, staff, and community members who urgently need to get in touch with the office.
