Miss Amy and Miss Courtney's Preschool Class
This Week...
On Tuesday, during choice time several friends helped to color white paper yellow. We used markers and crayons to color it completely, no white spots! The kids then learned about what different food we eat on Thanksgiving. We talked about corn and used our yellow paper to make our own corn in a husk. Miss Kelly was in to intergrate with fine motor skills and cutting . The kids had to cut the yellow paper into squares and glue it in the middle of the corn husk. Afterwards, we played a great game with Miss Kara during an intergrated physical therapy lesson. We all practiced important jumping skills. We jumped forward on two feet and one foot to different color circles. We also jumped side to side over a jump rope. Everyones motor skills are getting so much better!
On Wednesday, we took a closer look at our individual names. We played a fun game to sign in by turning over a hidden name and giving it to that person along with a high-5 to say hello! Then, we identified the first letter in our names and followed directions to do an action we called out. For example, "if you have a J as your first letter stand up and clap two times." We continued to talk about Thanksgiving and what being thankful actually means. We read "Thanks for Thanksgiving" and talked about manners and being polite. We carried this over during our craft time where the kids had to use their manners to share paints with one another to sponge paint a turkey. It was so nice to hear the kids using manners and being kind all on their own. We also played musical chairs today. We play a special way in pre-k. No one is "out", instead- when you can't find a chair, you have to sit on a friends lap. We had to work on following directions, motor planning, problem solving and being patient. When we sat on each other's laps we all got a nice squeeze from each other's weight. This input helped us to focus, induced endless giggles, and tested some kids patience. It was a good lesson to work on being a team and being competitive all at the same time.
On Thursday, we finished our turkey craft from Wednesday. We had to follow directions to add the body, eyes, beak and waddle. We re-read our story from Wednesday and answered questions about the story. Then we passed a stuffed turkey around and each child stated one thing that they were thankful for. We went to the playground today and had a great time running, playing princesses and princess, dragons and Godzillas. Afterwards we came inside and played icky sticky bubble gum. This game helps us to label body parts and use creative thinking as we stick our hands to different things. The kids had a ball with this!
Happy Birthday to Aiden!!! Friday we celebrated his fourth birthday! We came in and had a fun choice time with a really cool obstacle course with balance beams and a huge cheese mat. We also got to paint our whole hands like a turkey. Then, we learned a new song called POW WOW and it talks about all different kinds of animals. We enjoyed playing outside on the playground. We came in and played a fun game and had a nice snack to celebrate Aiden. :)
