1. 1 week, 5 days, 15 hours, 56 minutes and 28 seconds ( as of writing)...

Good morning all,

Another one has swung around; we've got a jam-packed newsletter this week as many festivities and enrichment events have taken precedent.

So, without further ado, please enjoy this week's Bardwell Biography.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mr Francksen

Executive Headteacher

Attendance this week: 98% (Year to date 97.4%)

2. Rowan's Adventures...

Where has the week gone?! We have all been rehearsing very hard but have still had time this week for dancing, naughty elf hunting, amphibian classifying and number bond investigations. We had a wonderful moment of collective brilliance when we all realised that 3+2 was the same as 2+3 and the children promptly invented the new maths term of, ‘switcheroo!’

3. Hazel's Exploits...

The class has been rehearsing brilliantly for the school nativity and worked very hard to learn the songs. We have also been busy finishing our Christmas narrative and next week we will complete our independent write. In maths the children have been answering some very challenging word problems and mastery questions on the four operations.

4. Oak's Endeavours...

Amid creating a star production factory, filming instrumental and dance performances we have somehow found time to research Victorian toys and Charles Dickens prior to beginning our English work on ‘A Christmas Carol’. In the words of Tiny Tim “God bless us - everyone.”

5. Nativity Performances

We are so looking forward to our outdoor Nativity performances on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week, and we are keeping a very close eye on the weather - please ensure you do the same! Currently, the BBC weather forecast has a temperature of 9-10OC for each day with no rain forecast in the afternoons. We have sent out an email letting you know which of the 3 performances you can attend. Please ensure you have read and understood the procedures within that email and do not try to attend on a different day than allocated, as numbers will be strictly limited.

If you have any questions, please direct them to the school office staff.

Mrs Boyd and Mrs Dunnell Paley

6. PTA Raffle Tickets

Please do support our wonderful PTA by buying a raffle ticket (£1 each) for a luxurious Christmas Hamper. Obviously, due to the pandemic, the PTA have not been able to fundraise in the manner they usually would have. Therefore, please do show your Christmas spirit by buying a ticket or two, or three, four...

7. Musical performance this week - Y4 and Y5 pupils

Thank you to Mr Peck, our Music teacher from Suffolk County Music Service for his tuition, and to Mrs Ilston for filming.

Please note that from the start of next term, the Y4/5 music lesson will move to a Tuesday afternoon - please ensure you have your instrument in school.

8. Enrichment Day

On Wednesday, every single child got to experience a professional dance workshop. Children learned all about choreography and street-dance by collaborating in groups to perform a fireworks routine. The standard of dance was absolutely outstanding and at times it was mesmerising seeing what the children achieved in such a short pace of time.

9. Christmas Jumpers and Christmas Lunch - Monday

We are having our Christmas jumper day and Christmas lunch on Monday 14th December. Please ensure that, if you pay for lunches, you have £2.30 credit in your child’s Meals account on Arbor. Don’t forget to wear a Christmas top or jumper instead of your school jumper/sweatshirt. We will be making a collection for Save The Children - £1 donation suggested.

10. House Teams

Our new house team display has arrived. Each term the pupils work extremely hard to demonstrate the Bardwell Behaviours (Aspirational, Resilient, Courageous, Kind COmmunicaotr, Reflective and Inqusitive). In doing so, they can earn Class Dojos, which get converted to house points. This term's winners will shortly be announced. The winning team will receive a non-uniform day on the last day of term (Friday 18th December) so watch this space...

11. New Staff Member

I would like to formally welcome Mrs Box to the Bardwell team as our newest member of staff. Mrs Box has joined us as a Teaching Assistant, primarily working in Oak Class. Her enthusiasm, professionalism and skill set has already made such a positive impact on the staff and children!

12. Grateful Thanks

We’d like to thank Mr Hutchinson for supplying us with two builder’s bulk bags from our OPAL spare parts list. Also, a huge thanks must go to local resident, David Ray, who has kindly donated a multitude of resources from pallets, wood off-cuts, a range of tubing to cardboard boxes, shells and water containers.

13. Walk to Walsingham

This week, pupils collectively walked 28 miles so we have already completed our virtual Walk to Walsingham, which is a distance of 46 miles from the school! We are wondering now how long it will take us to walk to Lourdes, another well-known site of pilgrimage. Why not look it up on a map with your child and see if you can make an estimate?

The British Pilgrimage Trust have said, “What a great Christmas story!” and will feature us on their social media soon - please check out their Facebook feed.

Congratulations this week to the following pupils who completed the 6 laps of the school field which means a full mile walked or run - Josh, Rubi, Lucas, Eloise, Ethan, Jake, Finley, Tobias and Noah.

16. Raring To Go Christmas Edition

The magazine is full of ideas for the Christmas holidays to keep the family entertained, featuring holiday camps, gift ideas, days outs and Winter activities. With best wishes, Emily Parker, Raring To Go Editor, Suffolk edition.

17. Free School Meals - Christmas voucher codes

If your child is in receipt of income-related Free School Meals (FSM), you should have received a letter this week with your Christmas holiday voucher codes.

Please contact the office if you have not received a letter.

18. Contact details - reminder

As always, do please update your details on Arbor if you have any changes to your phone number, email address, etc.

19. School photos - your feedback please

This week is the first time we have used Tempest Photography, having had a wonderful working relationship with Spencer Brown Photography for many years. Spencer has now given up his photography business, so we’d like your feedback to help inform whether we should book Tempest again or try to find another photographer.

Leaving aside issues around the timing and technical issues (both of which were unavoidable), please complete this survey with your thoughts.

For information, we usually take pupil individual (& sibling) photographs in the Autumn term of each year, and whole school/class photos annually in the Summer Term.

Tempest are looking forward to receiving your online order by Sunday 13th December and hope to have orders into school by the end of term, though this is not guaranteed.

Thank you,

Mrs Allman

20. School Improvement Activity

2d. Children are factually fluent as a result of spaced learning in number bonds and times tables (to reduce cognitive overload) - TTRockstars and Numbots are on the way! Please watch this space as we look to launch this school and home-learning tool!

6b. Pupils enjoy a stimulating outdoor and play learning (OPAL) environment - we are another step closer to launching our OPAL programme. We are awaiting on planning permission in order to utilise custom-built storage for our outdoor materials. With any luck, this Christmas, our outdoor environment will begin to take shape, ready for a Jan/Feb launch.
