Back to School Newsletter
Mrs. Bundenthal & Mrs. Johann
Welcome Back!
Please read this newsletter! It is full of important info that we would like to get out to you.
Solar Eclipse
We will not only be discussing the event in the classroom, but we will also talk about how to safely observe a solar eclipse. The safety of your child's eyes is our most important concern.
Homework
1. Your child needs to read for 20 minutes every night. This can be independently or with someone else. If your child seems frustrated or tired, reading out loud to them DOES count as their 20 minutes. We want your child to enjoy reading, so try and allow them choice in what books they read.
2. While we don't have traditional homework, we do want kids to be engaged and doing things after school. This could include sports, music, or any other scheduled activities. Encourage your child to play outside, explore nature, and ask questions. We also know that families are busy. We want your time together to be spent doing enjoyably activities like eating dinner, playing games, or reading.
Chromebooks
We will not only be teaching them to use these devices in the classroom, but will also cover digital citizenship and responsible usage with the kids.
Our 2nd grade class is not yet one to one and we will be allowing students to bring their own chromebooks to the classroom to make this happen. We had a very successful BYOD program last year and would like to keep it going. We do have some chromebooks in the classroom for students to share, but they are limited.
If you would like to purchase a chromebook for your child to use, we would greatly appreciate it. Any 11.5 inch chromebook will work for this. Expensive devices are not necessary. It is an excellent investment and they will be able to use it in grades 3-5 as well.
Students will be able to keep and lock their chromebooks at school during the week if you choose.
We will discuss this more at Back to School Night, but please feel free to email us with any questions that you might have.
Supplies
If you were waiting to buy supplies, we received extra of many items thanks to the generosity of so many. Please just make sure your child has a composition book and a pocket folder for their papers.
Food/Birthday Policy
To limit distractions and issues with treats, Mrs. Johann and Mrs. Bundenthal will not celebrate birthdays in the classroom. Please share birthdays and treats with families and friends at your parties outside of school.
