Miss. Luburgh's 3rd grade class

Let's get started!

Welcome to the class!

We will start class on August 20th at 9:00 a.m. If your child would like breakfast it starts at 8:30in the cafeteria. We will start the class by getting to know each other the first week. This is my first year teaching, and I am very excited to meet all of you! Classroom rules will be made, and I will expect every student to follow them throughout the year. Once the rules are established it will be time for a fun learning experience! Throughout the year we will have two field trips and volunteers will be needed! I am already so excited for them! I will send out more information about the field trips closer to date. The students will leave the school building at 3:30 to go home. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Expectations

In my classroom I expect everyone to be respectful. I will not tolerate bullying. The first few weeks we will be making classroom rules as a group. I feel that it is very important that every student has an input in the classroom rules. Once the rules are established the classroom will run smoothly. I have a lot of goals for your children this year and will hold high expectations for every student. I will challenge your children to become the the best they can possibly be in the classroom.

Homework Policy

I will send homework home two to three times a week. I expect the students to turn it in the following day. I encourage parents/guardians to help with homework , but I do want the student to do the work. I think that it is very important that the child does the work so that he/she reaches his/her full potential. If a emergency happens and your child did not do the homework due to an emergency just send me a quick email or a note. I am very understanding!

Topics to be covered throughout the year!

We will cover several different topics!

English:

The students will have journal entries to complete. Throughout the year the students will be asked to write about field trips, readings, and much more. The students will at least have one journal entry a week. Students will also be in reading groups. Throughout the year these groups will change. I want the students to work with different people throughout the year.

Math:

We will be working with several different formulas throughout the year. The students will have a student centered project in the middle of the year. The students will have to use the perimeter and area formula to create their own garden. This project also has English, Science and Social Studies topics integrated in it.

Science:

The students will have a lot of hands on experiments. I will bring in several different objects for the students to explore. I really think that hands on activities are more engaging! We will have a large unit over the different layers of ground and we will have a large unit on plants.

Social Studies:

The students will have one presentation over their favorite inventor. In class we will talk about several different inventors through books and the internet. The students will pick an inventor, and then he/she will present the inventor they chose to the rest of the class. We will also research about different presidents, astronauts, and more!
