The Mustang Minute
October 18, 2019 - Issue 8
Mid Term Madness
Many of our after school activities are now in full swing, check out the section below for more information.
Last night was the second meeting of the PTO. We have some great activities planned, starting with the Fall festival tonight from 6-8pm for students. Later this month, we have McTeacher's night at McDonalds and I have quite the CMS crew coming to serve our families. This is always a fun event for staff, students, and parents! check out the flier below for details.
The town of Norwood voted last night to approve moving forward with the feasibility study for building a new middle school. The vote was 100 to 1 in favor of the study, a great show of support from the Town Meeting members!
Coming up next week we have several events:
Monday and Tuesday: Students will be taking their first Renaissance assessments in ELA and math. These short assessments (around 25 min) will give teachers timely data about student achievement. This is a new program we are using that will help teachers develop lessons, reinforce skills, and identify students that may need additional support.
Tuesday: Eighth grade students have a Blue Hills regional technical School Assembly, letting them know what our regional technical high school has to offer them.
Tuesday and Wednesday: Our guidance department is holding a series of "new to Norwood" events by grade level. This week, students will participate in an ice cream social with other new students, getting to know each other. Grade 6 and 7 are this week, grade 8 will be at a later date.
Wednesday: Picture Day! Don't forget to look your best!
Friday: All next week students will be mailing donations to the American cancer Society with our culminating "real Mustangs Wear Pink" day. Students will have the t-shirts they ordered and others can join in by wearing pink and donating $1 for cancer research. So far we are the top fund raiser in town with over $1000!!!

The PTO typically meets the third Wednesday of each month (at times our day varies due to conflicts) to hear an update from the principal and discuss planning related to enrichment, fundraising, activities and other topics of interest. You can also stay up to date with the CMS PTO by following us on Facebook. You can contact the PTO at coakleypto@gmail.com.
