Jefferson County Announces Return to School Plan

Dr. Walter Gonsoulin and the Jefferson County Board of Education announced yesterday a plan for return to the traditional school environment. This gradual re-entry plan brings students back into the Corner feeder pattern in phases in a hybrid A/B model.

On September 21, 2020, our self-contained classroom students will return to CMS.

On September 28, 2020, K-4 students will return to Bagley Elementary and K-6 students at West Jefferson Elementary.

On October 5, 2020, our 5-8 middle schoolers will return to CMS and the students in grades 9-12 will return to Corner High School.

Should all go with the gradual return to school, the district plans for each group to return to a 5-day a week schedule two weeks after each start date. That would be:

Self-Contained Students: October 5, 2020

K-4 Students/K-6 Students: October 12, 2020

5-8 / 9-12 Students: October 19, 2020

We are working to finalize our return-to school instructional schedule and will share it with families in the days ahead. In addition, we will share our re-opening of school plan which addresses instruction, transportation, health services, cleaning of the school, communication, and child nutrition once it has been approved by the superintendent.

Today, however, we need your assistance. We realize you are probably "surveyed out." In order to properly serve your student based on this announcement, we ask that you please take the very brief survey in the link below to let us know your plan for your student(s) moving forward. If you have students at CMS in multiple grades, please complete one for each child. We hope these are our last of these such surveys as we work to get our kids back to school.

YOU ARE NOT BOUND TO RESPONSES PROVIDED IN PREVIOUS SURVEYS. You do not have to complete the survey a second time if you already completed it through the link that came via text to your phones.

CMS families who do not submit a survey will be contacted by phone beginning Monday, September 14, 2020, to gather this information. Should two parents/guardians complete the survey for a student and provide differing responses, we will also call to get clarification.

We appreciate all that you have done for your students during this remote learning period, as well as your support for the teacher and staff at Corner Middle School. We look forward to seeing ALL of our students back on campus very soon!
