HOMEWORK
We have a lot of kiddos that are not getting homework completed.
Math: They will have nightly math homework Monday thru Thursday, either on paper or on the computer.
Reading: They also have 120 minutes of reading each week from Friday to Friday that needs to be recorded in their agendas. This will be recorded in txconnect the second nine weeks. It will not be part of their average for grades, but you will know each week if they are completing their reading.
Back Row: Karen LaCombe, Melinda Hoover
Front Row: Jennifer Mackie , Reagan Habermacher, Melissa Reagan, Abbey LarremoreHere's what's happening in 5th grade this week:
Math
What's Happening This Week?
-Mixed Number Multiplication
-Order of Operations
-Exponents
-Prime Factorization
Check your student's planners for homework assignments this week. Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday every week. This week, homework comes from our district practice resource for STAAR. Math journals should also be used to study skills we learn in class.
Science
Organisms and Environments
Checking Terrarium
-Planting seeds and observing changes in the environment.
Ladybugs
-Understanding the role of each organism in its environment
-Understanding the life cycle of insects
Solving the Mystery of Greentown
What's happening to cause frogs and plants to die?
Language Arts
- We will be learning about using quotation marks this week.
- We are also reading some nonfiction text and working on written responses. This week's story is about the Giant Squid.
This week we have 90 minutes of reading homework, 30 minutes can come from Istation!! Homework grades are not being put into txconnect. They will not effect grades, but it will show up so that you know if they are completing homework. Remember our goal is to get them ready for next year and a lot of classes will have homework count as 10% of their grade. This is a great time to talk to them about averages, and show them how missing assignments can hurt their grades. On the flip side show them how doing their homework and getting that 100 can help as well.
Social Studies
Social Studies Weekly
We are all getting different weeks this week and we will be working on a group study of a specific time period in history. This week will be about reading and looking for important facts.
50 States Test on May 9th!! They should have all of their maps from the year. They also have a map in their planners. They will only need to know the states.
