Very important! -- New Liability Waiver

Have you signed and returned the new PTA Liability Waiver that went home last week?

The liability waiver you sign on Aeries will not cover upcoming PTA events. If you do not return a waiver for your child they will not be able to participate in PTA events.

You may not have seen this in the past. Our events have reached a new level of fun, including things like jumpies and obstacle courses. This waiver will allow your child to participate in these fun activities. We would never add anything that you haven’t already seen at birthday parties and local fun centers.

If you have specific concerns, please contact us:

New Calendar for 2019-20!

Good news! Our 2019-20 school calendar has been revised and approved by our School Board. Next year, we will start school on Wednesday, July 17th. On the old calendar, school started on the 16th and there was a non-student day on August 12th. With the new calendar, your summer is 1 day longer and students WILL have school on Monday, August 12th. You should have received a bright pink hard copy of this revised calendar in your student's backpack today.

Speaking of next year....

Hopefully by the end of the first week in May, our 2019-20 enrollment numbers will be stable enough to make staffing determinations. If for any reason your family will not be returning to Penngrove and you have not notified the office, please do so immediately. Additionally, if you know families with 4th, 5th, or 6th graders who are interested in a new school community, we have space in the upper grades. (A few more students would help us avoid some combination classes.) As soon as we know how many classrooms we will have next year (it will be 17 or 18), teaching assignments will be determined and we'll update you! Thank you for your patience during the April/May dash!

A few options for Summer Camps:

Fiddleheads Summer Camp by Seeds of Awareness

Seeds of Awareness promotes emotional intelligence and wellbeing through mindfulness-based, therapeutic, and nature-based programs.

Fiddleheads is a fun and therapeutic environment that provides social skills instruction and emotional support to neurodiverse groups of children in our vibrant Bay Area Regional Parks.

We keep our ratio small: one counselor per three children. We also cap our group size at 6 to 8 children so that each child feels seen and understood.

We develop the flow of the day and structure of activities to meet the individual needs of the children in the group.

We are careful not to over schedule the children. A harmony of excitement and relaxation is sought through a balanced flow of free play, adventure, story time, structured games, crafts, snack and circle times.

We honor the natural rhythms of the child and the day; the in- and the out-breath.

We incorporate mindfulness and movement activities into everything we do.

Scholarships are Available! Point Reyes Summer Camp

Point Reyes Summer Camp (PRSC) is an environmental education camp located inside Point Reyes National Seashore. Our summer camp provides immersive experiences to over 400 children each summer. Naturalists, Counselors, and National Park Service Partners expose youth to environmental careers and provide experiential ecology, biology, and earth science lessons.

I am reaching out to you for two reasons. First, I hope Petaluma City Schools' administrators and guidance counselors will help identify low-income students (from households earning two times the federal poverty level and below) that would benefit from attending camp on a full scholarship. Nearly 25% of our summer camp participants come from low income households, and 25% are students of color. School officials can work with parents and guardians to create an UltraCamp account and fill out the required registration forms. All we need is a letter on school letterhead stating that the referred student receives free or reduced lunch. You can find instructions on how to create an UltraCamp account by clicking HERE.

Second, I have attached our 2019 camp flier, which contains dates and grade-level eligibility for all eight camp sessions. I would appreciate it if you would post it to your schools' websites, newsletters, and/or send a copy home with students. As a non-profit, camp fees support PRNSA’s year-round educational programs.
