Science Olympiad Initial Student Interest Survey
Parents, if your student is interested in participating in Science Olympiad at Chippewa this year please have them complete this short initial interest survey by Oct. 21st. The purpose of the form is to give the coaches an initial idea of the number of students interested in Science Olympiad for the 2022-23 Season. Note that students must be logged into their school google account to access the survey.
Parent Teacher Conferences
The first of two parent teacher conferences will be held on October 27 th from 3:30-7:30pm. The sign-ups are not open yet but will be soon! Conference sign-up is done through the ParentVUE portal so please make sure you can sign in to avoid delay. If you need a ParentVUE account or have issues signing in please give the front office a call at 651-621-6400 and we will direct you to someone that can help!
SCIENCE OLYMPIAD PARENT COACHES NEEDED
We are looking for a parent or two to volunteer to coach the Chippewa Science Olympiad teams. We have a science teacher who is willing to facilitate communication to students at school, secure practice spaces, and be a general resource for the parent coaches, but would not actually coach the team(s). If you are interested in coaching Science Olympiad, please reach out to Patrick Shellum, our Co-Curricular Coordinator at patrick.shellum@moundsviewschools.org or at 651-621-6412. If you would like to know more about what coaching would entail, please click on this link to be taken to the Minnesota Science Olympiad website.
Volleyball - Registration is open!
Students will focus on learning and reinforcing the fundamental skills of volleyball including: passing, hitting, and serving. Coaches will use a variety of drills and games to build skills in a fun and positive environment. All boys and girls in grades 6 – 8 are encouraged to participate regardless of skill ability. Activity buses are available to students. Session I is non-competitive; practice and fun in-house games only. Learn more about both sessions here.
Ski and Snowboard Club
The after-school ski and snowboarding club will be held at the Wild Mountain Ski Resort, located in Taylors Falls. The club meets for eight sessions. There are three pricing options available:
- $350 includes eight lift tickets, ski corral, one lesson and motorcoach transportation to and from the ski resort.
- $510 includes eight lift tickets, equipment rental, ski corral, one lesson and motorcoach transportaion to and from the ski resort (Wild mountain also offers leasing options)
- $208 includes motorcoach transportation to and from the ski resort only. (A copy of the registered students Wild Mountain Season Ski Pass must be sent to the school Co-Curricular Coordinator/HS Asst. Athletic Director prior to season starting)
More information regarding after-school ski and snowboard can be found at Community Ed Ski & Snowboard Program website
Parent Chaperones are Needed! You don't have to ski, we are looking for Chalet only chaperones too. Without chaperones there is no ski program. Buses are chaperoned by Mounds View District parents. Chaperones help take attendance and maintain order on buses. Additional responsibilities are posted on our website. Chaperones will receive a free lift ticket, rental equipment and lesson each night. It is preferred that chaperones work for all 8 weeks. As with all school volunteers, a routine background check will be required. Contact the ski supervisor at your child’s school for information.
8th Grade - PreACT Testing - Wednesday, October 26th
The PreACT8/9 is an assessment from ACT that simulates the ACT testing experience by providing students early exposure to ACT test-quality questions and predictive score ranges on the familiar 1-36 scale. This helps students get comfortable with the testing experience and understand how they’re doing in core subjects. It also helps parents and educators identify areas where additional support might be necessary. During periods 1 - 4, on October 26th, Chippewa 8th graders will be given this test.
Click HERE for a letter that fully explains this assessment and the benefits of taking the assessment.
Additional information can be found on the ACT website at act.org/preact8-9. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your student's dean.
