"Spit Fire Grill" April 19-21st
The Spitfire Grill is a musical about Percy Talbot, a recently released parolee. After 5 years in prison, she finds herself traveling to the small town of Gilead Wisconsin. The town's sheriff Joe, who is also her parole officer, finds her a job at Hannah's spitfire grill. The grill is one of the few places left in town to eat. Percy's presence in the quiet town upsets their humdrum way of life and maybe a few perspectives as well.
Come and enjoy the intimate nature of black-box musical theatre with a very talented and excited cast! Seats are very limited, so get your tickets now!

Youth Summit: Embrace Your Future
Middle School Student Survey
Middle school students will be surveyed this year through StudentSource. The survey will be available in English and Spanish. The survey window is April 9 - June 15.
Please communicate the following to parents prior to the survey.
Student Survey
Each year the District surveys students, staff, and parents to gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessment of progress on the District's Strategic Plan.
The student survey takes about 20 minutes during the regular school day. The data gathered from the survey are anonymous; your child will not put his/her name or other identifying information on the survey. Like other surveys, results will be presented only about groups.. No individual data will be reported.
Student surveys of middle and high schools include three optional questions for students to identify their gender, ethnicity / race, and sexual orientation. These questions allow for additional levels of analysis of questions on inclusion, safety and bullying.
Your child may skip questions or stop filling out the survey at any time. Refusing to participate or withdrawing from the survey does not affect your child's grades or class standing in any way. If you or your child does not want to participate, your child can read or do some other activity while his or her classmates complete the survey.
A copy of the survey is available from your child's school and is posted at
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/district/research-reports
After reviewing the survey, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify <insert school contact information>.
College and Career Readiness Opportunities
One of our goals is to prepare our students for the future by providing college and career readiness opportunities throughout their high school career. On Tuesday, April 17th, all 10th graders will be taking a field trip to Western Oregon University where they will tour the campus, sit in on an admissions presentation, and have the opportunity to ask a panel of WOU students questions about college life. The trip and the required written work are part of their 10th grade career credit.
Students and Families are invited to attend the next BSD College Planning Night: College Application Process & Finding the Right Fit with a pre-session featuring Support Services for 504's and IEP's in College. The pre-session will include accessing the various resources and services available to students with disabilities on a college campus. The second presentation will include learning about the college application process, narrowing down a list of potential colleges and discovering the best fit. Choose either Thursday April 5th at Westview High School or Wednesday April 11th at Southridge High School, starting at 6:30pm. See Flyer Below!
Finally the Spring NACAC College Fair will be held a the University of Portland on Sunday April 22nd, 12noon-3pm. Attending this event will give your student an opportunity to connect with many colleges who travel to Portland to be at the Fair. Please register online at www.gotocollegefairs.com or just show up!

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards - National Silver Key Awards
Each year, the Alliance partners with more than 100 visual arts and literary arts organizations across the country to bring the Scholastic Awards to local communities. Teens in grades 7–12 apply in 29 categories of art and writing. In 2018, students submitted nearly 350,000 works of art and writing to the Scholastic Awards.
Submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
Students receiving Gold Keys, Silver Keys, Honorable Mentions, or American Visions & Voices Nominations are celebrated within their communities through local exhibitions and ceremonies. Gold Key works are then judged nationally by an impressive panel of creative–industry experts to receive National Medals, including Gold, Silver, American Visions & Voices, Portfolio Silver with Distinction or Portfolio Gold Medals and Special Achievement Awards. National Medalist are recognized in part at the National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
