Internet safety
It has come to the fifth-grade teachers' and Ms. Dechant's attention that some students are bringing unauthorized technology to school and showing their friends at least one inappropriate application that they say is a free download from the internet. We found the content of this app quite offensive for its strange cartoon-like marketing towards children of scenes that are certainly not age-appropriate and/or school-appropriate. We had a classroom discussion about keeping one's own phones, tablets, etc. either at home or turned off in the backpack. We also discussed being wise about our technology choices, avoiding sites that are demeaning to women and/or any other group, and making sure that parents/guardians approve the content that students download onto their devices. Please let me know if you have any questions about this incident. I encourage you to continue this conversation with your students at home.
