Cougar Courier

Greetings from Dr. Garcia!

November 6, 2021

November is here and during this season of gratitude, I am continuously grateful for our Clay IA family! Last week we had the opportunity to celebrate the end of quarter one with spirit week and a staff vs student volleyball game. The energy was electric on Friday and everyone had a great time celebrating together. While the staff fell to the 2021 City Champion volleyball team, we're already preparing for the student staff basketball game!

Boys basketball recently competed tryouts, and we are excited for the season to begin. Our first game is this Thursday against Urey Middle School. Doors open at 5:15 pm, and it is a home game.

Many of our drinking fountains have been converted to filling stations due to Covid-19. As you can imagine, we are going through a lot of plastic cups. In an effort to minimize waste, we have purchased reusable water bottles for scholars which should arrive in the coming weeks. We hope this will help to reduce waste and protect the environment.

Please mark your calendars for November 29th which will be an asynchronous eLearning day and scholars will be learning from home. This is the Monday following Thanksgiving break.

If you are a parent of a current 8th grader, families can check out Clay High School next Tuesday, November 9, and Washington on Thursday, November 11 at 6:30 p.m. We hope you are able to learn more about what each of these high schools has to offer. You can also attend the SBCSC Showcase of Schools on November 18th at the Century Center. Doors open at 6:30 and the event goes until 8:00 pm.

Our IB learner attribute for November is caring. We will be encouraging scholars to think about ways they can be caring at school, at home and in their community.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Blessings,

Dr. Garcia

It's a GREAT Day at Clay is Back!

Help Needed!

We are also in need of 20 men to serve as mentors to some of our male scholars in grades 5-8. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please email Dr. Garcia at ngarcia@sbcsc.k12.in.us

The District also introduced a renewed mentorship program. You can make a difference by working with a student one on one and being a trusted friend. If you know a student who could benefit from a mentor or know someone who would like to become a mentor, please visit the website or contact Taylor Williams, our family engagement and mentorship coordinator, to get started in the process.

Dress Code Reminder

I want to take a moment and remind parents that we have a dress code. Spandex shorts are not allowed. CIA shirts can be worn any day and pant colors are black, blue and khaki. Scholars should not be wearing sweatpants to school. We appreciate your help with making sure scholars adhere to the dress code.

We are in need of uniform clothes for our Cougar Closet, particularly for our older scholars. If you have any clothes you would like to donate, please bring them to the main office. Thank you!
