PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora koutou,

A big thank you to Mrs Burrough, Mrs Cameron, Mr Bain and Mr Harman who ran our Year 6 Puberty evenings last week. Thank you also to the families who attended. We hope you found these sessions useful.

Just a reminder that from the 15th November all volunteers in the school will need to provide us with proof of vaccination. This is mandated and a requirement for all schools in the country. Evidence of status can be emailed to pjackson@hnps.school.nz or brought into the school office for us to make a copy. Thank you.

Congratulations to our Chess players who competed in the Hawke's Bay tournament last Friday. Mr Bain reported that the behaviour was exemplary and all our students represented our school with pride. A special well done to Sam Drysdale who took out the Year 4 competition. Please see the link below for more information about this event. Thank you to those paretns who assisted with transport and help on the day.

Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions our typical end of year Prizegiving and Year 6 Leavers events will take place in a different format. We have been working with our local schools and ministry advisors to try and think of creative ways to hold these events. Unfortunately, due to numbers, we cannot have parents in attendance. However, we will be looking for opportunities to record or live stream these events. More information about these formalities will come out in the next few weeks.

A big thank you to everyone who supported the Gumboot Day Mufti day last Friday. We raised $692.40 for the "I Am Hope Appeal" (Children's Mental Health) which is fantastic. Thank you.

A big thank you to Peak Trailblazer organisers Jess, Catherine, Hillary and Vicky who did their very best to continue with the event this year. The 15th November vaccination deadline really put a spanner in the works and the logistics of this made it too challenging to continue. I'd like to thank these ladies for their hard work and resilience and remind families that students can continue wearing the "Kind is Cool" t-shirts for the remainder of the school year.

Have a fantastic week everyone.

Ngā mihi

Tainui Trail Cancelled

The Peak Trail Blazer Committee has tried so hard to make this event happen in these challenging Covid times. But the current Delta outbreak and restrictions continue to present a challenging time for events. So we have made another difficult decision to also cancel the Tainui Trail this year. This decision has not been made lightly and is in the best interests of public safety.

Although we thought we could run the event in age and gender categories, our numbers are too large with the necessary volunteers, officials and parent chaperones required. No matter how many different scenarios we have weighed up, we unfortunately cannot comply with the current level 2 guidelines while still providing all the fun activities around the event.

All participants will receive an email with deferral, refund, or donation options in the coming days. The Peak Trail Blazer is a 100% fundraising event, which is this year raising funds for Re-Source Charity and Havelock North Primary. We thank you for your support and we can assure we are determined to make the 2022 event super awesome!

HNPS Enviro Schools Survey- 2021

As we navigate our way forward as a school from Bronze to Silver Enviro status we would love to know how you feel we are going on our sustainability journey at HNPS, what more you would like to see, and how you could help to make these initiatives happen. To date, we have only had 12 replies to this survey and we would be really keen for a few more. Thank you.

HNP Enviro Corner

Lucia, Room 3 and HNP's support to bring awareness and raise money for our Maui Dolphin has just spread wider!

An article written by Lucia has been published in the Forest and Bird - KCC "Wild" magazine.

We are so proud of Lucia, Room 3 and the HNP community for their leadership, support and Kaitiakitanga.

Check out the link below to find out more about this wonderful magazine which connects Kiwi kids to New Zealand's amazing wildlife and wild places.

Henry, from the Environment Centre, brought e-waste for the Year 3 children to 'tinker' with in Discovery. The children learnt that instead of throwing old electronic waste into the landfill it can be taken to the Environment Centre where it is dismantled and the pieces recycled.

Tinkering - written by Duke - Room 6

Twist, turn, crack went the screwdriver. It was really hard to open the old phone. When it was open we looked for little green platforms and then you put it in a box. It was really fun. I didn't want to stop but I had to.

Brooklyn, Joe and Charlotte tinkering!

Room 26 Student Volunteer Army

Hi Parents and Caregivers
We’re the Room 26 Student Volunteer Army.

One Voice Community Services Trust is organising a Christmas event at Te Aranga Marae. It will feed lots of families. Our mission is to provide Christmas presents to those who attend the event. Our focus this year is for the children, to make their Christmas just a little bit more special.

We need your help!

You could help us by donating Christmas presents.
We will start to collect Christmas presents until 14th December

Our friendly collectors will come around classes every morning to collect donations from your children, or they can deliver them to Rm 26.
We can wrap the presents for you, however, If you do wrap the presents we would appreciate that you would include an age category and gender.

Thank you!
