What's going on at OJN?

Happy October! I want to give a huge shout out to the students, staff and community members for helping us make our 30th annual Re-enactment such a successful event! We are very fortunate for the educational center, programming volunteers, and sensational staff to put this event on each year.

We are gearing up for parent/teacher conferences coming up in just a few weeks! You should have received a letter stating your date and time to meet with your child's teacher. If you have any questions -- please contact Liz in the front office!

OJ Neighbours Spirit Wear: Be on the lookout for our first spirit wear for OJN in the next few weeks. We will have samples and order forms available during parent/teacher conferences!

For the 2018-2019 school year, we are focusing on the theme of student leadership. Ask your child about the leadership opportunities they are exploring within their classrooms and the school! A few to highlight are the morning video announcements, junior librarians, leaders of the week and so much more! The students are learning all about the 7 Habits of Healthy, Happy Kids.

If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas please contact me in the front office!

Apache Way Student of the Month!

We select an Apache Way Healthy Habit for each month. During the month, teachers discuss the habit and look for students displaying the life skill during the school day. September’s habit was Be Proactive. Students were challenged to look at what needs done, chose to be proactive and took the initiative to do it. At OJN we talk about the “Apache Way: The Right Way Every Day.” To recognize our outstanding Apaches the staff selects one student from each classroom as the Apaches of the Month. These students participated in a celebration with Mrs. Cordes this past Friday. October's habit is Begin With the End in Mind -- Ask your student what this habit is all about and how they can exhibit these skills at OJN each day.

Phase 1: Gather Data

Thank you to everyone who participated by completing this short survey. I need more responses! I will be leaving it open for the month of October. Please take a moment to provide some input and feedback so I can gain a better understanding of OJN and how to serve our students and families in this community!

Simply complete this survey by October 21st!

From the Nurse:

Cold and flu season is fast approaching. We are already seeing a lot of coughs and colds. Please remember to bring in medication such as cough medicine or cough drops as the school does not provide stock medication to give out. Also, if your child is prone to headaches or stomach issues, please provide pain meds like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and/or Tums for upset stomach or acid reflux.

***Any and All medication must be brought in and transported to or from school by the parents. Students are not allowed to bring medication themselves.

Sickness/Illness:

Remember also our policy about illness and being in school. Please keep your child at home for any vomiting, fever over 100.0, suspicious/contagious rash, red/irritated/itchy eyes(pink eye). We request they be fever-free, without medication, and have no vomiting episodes for 24-hours prior to returning to school.

Please contact Mr. John Davis or Mrs. Peggy Ballschmidt, Nurse at OJN or (260) 563-2345 for more information.
