Treasure your Family
Grace Kiboko
FAMILY ONLY COMES ONCE, DON'T WASTE IT
I've learned to value your family while they are here because they're gone, they're gone and you can't go back. I've also learned to say I love you to your family as much as you can because you never know when they are going to leave you. Another one is life is short. It isn't there forever. There will be an end and we don't know when that end will be, but always stick together
TREASURE YOUR FAMILY...
because I know what it feels like to lose someone without saying goodbye.
Characters In My Story
Grandpa Wilson
My Grandpa was very close to me. We had the best time talking to each other on the phone. When I learned that he was getting an amputation, I was a nervous wreck. I thought of all the possible things that could go wrong, even death. When he passed, I was so angry because I never got a chance to say goodbye to him even though we said it over the phone, It was't the same. A lot of the time I was mad at everyone for what happened, but most of all, I was mad at God for taking him away from me. It was a hard thing to deal with when someone you love is taken away just like that. I learned from this to treasure my family while they are here from this because you never know when there will be a day when they aren't there.
Betty, My Mom
My mom was so strong during all of this. She was with my Grandpa all this time. She was like the peacemaker in this whole situation. When she told me that my Grandpa died, she couldn't even get a word out. It was harder on her than it was anyone else because she had planned out for him to come over here. She was influenced on the theme because she never really got a chance to say goodbye because she found out that he died a day later.
Grace (ME)
I didn't really know what to feel when he died because I had a lot emotions going on at the same time. I was really mad and really sad at the same time time and I didn't know what to feel right then. I didn't get a chance to really get to know my Grandpa and when he died I was really mad at God because he took him away too quickly. I was also really sad because he was gone and he was younger. I was anxious because I didn't know what my Grandma would react like.
Setting
The settings of my story is here in Norwalk, IA and in Likasi, DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo)
Events
1.
My Grandpa found out that he has diabetes and an infection and started in his foot. The doctors decided that the only way to save him was to get an amputation.
2.
My Grandpa had to get an amputation on his leg because of the infection. The infection actually started to spread up his leg and they had to amputate the rest of his leg. They then put him on dialysis so that the infection didn't spread to the whole body.
3.
My Grandpa passed away because the infection spread too quickly. The dialysis treatment had failed because the infection was traveling very quickly through the bloodstream.
This event contributed to the theme by
letting me know to treasure your family while they are here because you never know when they might be gone.

Alana Lee - "Dream Out Loud" (OFFICIAL HD MUSIC VIDEO)
I listened to this song the day after my Grandpa died. Ever since then, this song has been my Grandpa's song because it reminds me of him.
