Differentiation and Your Students
You may want to consider having your students take a learning styles test like the one linked below or something similar.

One thing is sure and that is students don't often do well when instruction is delivered strictly through notes. They need varied stimuli and opportunities to address their varied learning modalities. Remember--differentiation is not 20 different lessons. It's using best practices to help all students grow in knowledge and skills.

Discipline and Referrals
When writing a referral, please remember that there is a process. Some behaviors call for an immediate referral. Others, though, should be handled by you, the classroom teacher, first. One thing parents do not want is a phone call in which they hear for the first time that Johnny has behaved in such a manner that merits several days in ISS or even a suspension. Parents need to hear what you have tried as an intervention before they hear from the principal or assistant principal.
You should have a flowchart that provides you with some guidance on our system for writing referrals and handling discipline. If you need additional information or explanation, please do not hesitate to visit with Ms. Cavazos or Mrs. Rising. They will gladly help you. Your department chairperson may also be a resource for you.
