3rd Quarter TGAs
As a reminder, there are 3 different Teacher Graded Assignments assigned each quarter- a
Math TGA, a Writing TGA, and a Writing Work Sample. Teacher Graded Assignments are worth 30% of your math and ELA grades. (See Grading Category Weights attachment under BOTC above). These TGAs are an opportunity for students to apply the skills they are learning in classes and lessons and for teachers to provide feedback. It is vital that students complete these and turn them in on Seesaw each quarter. See below for information on the 3rd quarter TGAs.

- We will begin working on this in class during the week we return from winter break (January 6th-8th). You will need to turn in your final project to Seesaw by Friday, January 15th at 5:00 pm.

ELA
Unit 9-In ELA Unit 9, students will begin reading The Tale of Despereaux, a fictional novel by Kate DiCamillo. This novel was provided in the ELA curriculum. It will be important that students stay up to date on lessons, so they are prepared to discuss the book in ELA classes. If your student struggles reading independently, we encourage you to read this with them so that they do not fall behind.
Note About ELA Lessons:
ELA lessons are meant to take around 90 minutes-2 hours to complete. Please ensure that students are completing all parts of each ELA lesson. If you find that your student is having trouble getting through the lesson all at once, try taking breaks after each section of the ELA lesson.
Math
Unit 9-Area
In Unit 9, we will be continuing our study of geometry through learning about area. Students will learn concepts, formulas, and how to measure area. Multiplication fact fluency is an important skill as we learn about area, so make sure that your student is practicing their multiplication facts daily!

Exact Path & MindPlay
We will also be using Exact Path to progress monitor skills that we are working on in classes and lessons. Be sure to check into Exact Path weekly for assignments to progress monitor the skills you have been working on. We are excited to see the amazing growth that students will make this year!
There have been some questions with MindPlay lessons not being marked complete in the OLS. Please click here to watch a video about how to get those lessons to be marked as complete.
Tips & Tricks for a Successful School Year
- Class connect attendance is extremely important in addition to completing online coursework. Please prioritize attending class every day and email all teachers if you know you are going to be absent. Communicate with your homeroom teacher about any scheduling conflicts.
- Create a family schedule to stay on track with all students' class connects.
- Come to class prepared. Be sure to eat, use the restroom, do chores, etc. before or after class connects. Log in to class a few minutes early to be ready to start on time.
- Stay on track each day by following the Bison On-Track Calendar.
- All assignments require 80% mastery in order to be marked complete. Click here to watch a video showing how to retake an assessment. If you run out of attempts, contact your homeroom teacher.
- Watch recordings of any missed class connects. Click here to see how to access recordings.
- Clear out browser cache, cookies, and history daily to ensure that your computer runs smoothly with Newrow. Click here for instructions. Shut down your computer each night.
