Weekly Update
March 23, 2023
Dear Winnona Park Community,
This week, Superintendent Dr Fehrman sent CSD stakeholders this survey to capture a wide range of input concerning the 2023-2024 CSD budget. The survey was created and led by a group of CSD parents to gather community feedback on the upcoming budget allocation proposal.
The results will be collected and shared with CSD District leadership and the Board of Education prior to their tentative budget meeting on March 28, 2023. This survey aims to provide information regarding parents/educators priorities for this budget and is not expected to determine the budget. This survey must be completed by noon on Monday, March 27, 2023.
In order to provide us with informed opinions about CSD's budget and proposals, please read the Budget Request Summary and Budget Playbook.
The results will be published for the CSD community.
Have a Great Weekend!
Greg Wiseman,
Principal, Winnona Park Elementary School
How to View Your Child’s Report Card
How to View Your Child’s Report Card
The feedback we received from parents after our Student-led Conferences was extremely positive. In all that excitement, we did not communicate that instructions to view the 2nd term report cards. Please click here for directions on how to access your child’s report card.
A Note from Nurse Jen
As a reminder, our District policy states that CSD students must stay home until they are at least 24 hour fever free, medicine free, vomiting & diarrhea free. If they are seen in the clinic with these symptoms, it is likely they will need to go home. Please help keep our students healthy by not sending them to school until they are symptom free. There has been a GI bug going around our sweet little school and until the kids return symptom free, it is going to keep spreading. Thank you for your understanding.
Community Circle Tomorrow - Second Grade
We invite parents of second graders to Community Circle tomorrow morning. Please gather by the cafe door near the pond after drop off and you will be let in from there.
Spring Book Fair the week of March 27th
Our Spring Book Fair will be held the week of March 27th. We are still in need of volunteers; you can use this link to sign up. I have included the times each class will be visiting the Book Fair to make wish lists so that you can try to come during those times, however, we will still need more volunteers at other times. For the times before and after school, you are welcome to bring your student. Here is a link to general information about the Book Fair but please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions.
Although we always have a small selection of adult books, next week's Book Fair will feature signed copies of Winnona Park parent and author, Zoe Fishman's latest book - "The Fun Widow's Book Tour". The story is based on her real-life experience of suddenly becoming a widow just before her oldest child started kindergarten at Winnona Park. You can read about her story here in the AJC.

Survey for parents of students who receive IEP services
The IDEA Parent Survey will be open from January 17, 2023 – May 31, 2023. This survey helps the state to determine parents’ perception of the success of parent engagement between them and schools. Each state is required to conduct a parent survey collection process to measure parent/family perceptions. The information is gathered as a component of the State Performance Plan, Indicator 8: Percent of parents with a student receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving results for children with disabilities. The data collected is reported as a percentage of parental involvement in the Annual Performance Report for each district. Individual answers are kept confidential. Each response will be coded by a number – not a name.
The PTA Garden Committee Needs Your Help!
In December, led by the talented teachers and gardeners Ms. Messer and Ms. Woodley, WPE children submitted a grant proposal to fund garden repairs, and the children won the grant! EcoRise (https://www.ecorise.org/), who awarded the grant, commented on how impressed they were that the children had prepared the application, and awarded $1,100 toward garden restoration. This is a fantastic opportunity to get the kids and community involved in our outdoor spaces.
We are getting the edible garden ready for the kids to do spring planting of fruits and veggies, and we need parent volunteers. Please take a look at this sign up form and consider coming out to the garden for a few hours of mulching, weeding, and planting! You are welcome to bring your kids to join us.
Show your WPES Spirit!
At WPES we wear our support every Friday! Make sure your family gets your Spirit Wear before it's gone! Numerous adult and kids t-shirt options plus kids hoodies for the cold weather to come! Please include your child’s name and teacher in the notes section when checking out.
