Charger Check-In
March 16, 2023
A Note from Ms. Owens
We've had another busy week filled with learning and fun at St. Catherine! We started off the week celebrating National Sweatshirt Day on Monday and we capped it off with an amazing St. Baldrick's assembly with well over 40 shavees, Irish dancers, bagpipes, songs from Mr. McEldowney, and pies in the face for four of our staff! Thank you to everyone who stepped up to go bald, to all those who gathered donations and to the incredible number of people who donated money to bring an end to the scourge of childhood cancer. Thank you to Mrs. Brogan, Mrs. Krull and the huge number of family volunteers who made today possible. Thank you to Krull Windows for providing today's hot dog lunch and thank you to the School Advisory Board for providing the cookies.
Thank you to our wonderful FSA for providing a surprise lunch of bagel sandwiches from Great American Bagel, chips and water to all of our faculty and staff today! Paired with a dress down day, the yummy lunch made for a great last day of the school week for us!
Families who have been at SCA for a few years are familiar with the annual 5Essentials Survey given to school families, teachers and students in 4th-8th grade. This survey, given at all Archdiocesan schools, is administered by the University of Chicago. The survey responses help St. Catherine see our areas of strength and our areas for growth. As parents and guardians, your feedback is crucial, and I ask you to take 10 minutes to complete the survey which closes on Friday, March 17.
We continue to see quite a number of students with pink eye (conjunctivitis) in the past several weeks. Here is some guidance from the CDC regarding conjunctivitis - symptoms, causes, treatment, transmission. Once a student has visited a doctor and started taking eye drops, they are welcome to return to school immediately.
I want to share an opportunity that some of our school families may want to explore. It is an opportunity to donate money via the Invest in Kids Tax Credit Scholarship Program. We have a number of students who have qualified for the scholarship, however, we are still in need of funders. Donors are able to reduce their state tax liability. More information is available at the link above, and you can certainly reach out to me if you have questions. There is a 1:1 matching program open until March 31.
