Principal's Ponderings
I love this time of year! Be sure to get out and enjoy it together as a family! I bet you are already making fun fall break plans too! We’ve got lots of great things happening here for your child (and you) to be a part of! Let me share some highlights so you can make plans to get involved!
Wonderful things:
4th and 5th grade homerooms have voted for the student to represent them on our Student Council and this crew is already hard at work!
Our “Let’s Play 3 K” race is coming Sept 19th! We are hoping to raise nearly $4,000 for our playground project!
Career Fairs on Sept 24 and 25 are great learning opportunities for kids to link with community partners!
Student of the month happened for the 1st time this month on Sept 9th-kicking off our monthly celebration and recognition of students who demonstrate doing a great job using the given monthly habit from the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Then they have a lunch with me on Sept 12th @ 11.
Parents’ “Lunch with Lail” is also Sept 12th @ 12-please come for some great conversations and share any ideas you have to help me make BPS even better-please join me!
Program Review corner:
Each month, we are providing you with information about this part of our state assessment system. Not only do our 3-5th grade students take the state written assessment (combining multiple choice and constructed responses) now called KPREP in May but we also complete reviews of our whole school's programs including:
Arts/Humanities-dance, drama, music and art
Practical living/career studies-careers, health, physical fitness, consumerism
Writing
K-3 (primary program)
We know all of these are great opportunities for your child to be excited about their learning!
As always, thanks for allowing us to be partners w/ you to help your child grow!
Take care,
Mrs Lail
SEPTEMBER 18 - HIGH ATTENDANCE DAY! Special activities for those here and on time!

4th Grade's Good Work
4th grade students are making a global impact by supporting the work of an orphanage in Kampala, Uganda Africa. This orphanage is home to 80 former street children and works to rehabilitate and educate these children to be contributing members of the impoverished Kampala society. Students are collecting clothing items and will send with a volunteer who is traveling to Uganda in a few weeks. It is our hope to support this orphanage throughout the school year, with activities such as writing letters, sending pictures, and communicating with volunteers in the field. We will use this work to support our learning this year in all of our areas of study.
Tip of the Month
