Behavior PLCs

This Thursday we will be discussing behavior data. Please bring your laptops. We will meet in the conference room.

From Your Captain

As grades are finalized for the 1st six weeks by Friday, make sure you have reviewed district grading policy. You will need to email a list of failing students (including what they failed) to Mrs. Boggess and Mrs. Maynard by Wednesday, October 3. Going into the 2nd six weeks, make sure you are monitoring grade averages and missing/failing assignments throughout the grading period. Students need the opportunity to make up missing/failing assignments throughout the six weeks, not just during the last week before grades are due. This usually causes alot of frustration, upset, and poor behavior choices.

Sign up for our staff REMIND message system and receive important news via text. To sign up, enter the number 81010 and text this message: @avesta

Email custodial issues to Mrs. Logan and Ms. Bonnie. Make sure you are stacking your chairs everyday so it's easier for our team to sweep your floors.

Don't forget to document parent communication in Branching Minds. If you are not sure how, check in with Mrs. Helton.

Conscious Discipline

Our commitment for this week is: I will be respectful by using kind words towards other students and staff.

Discuss with your class the power of hurtful words. Brainstorm appropriate ways to respond to hurtful words, and things students can do when they are upset and feel like saying unkind things.

Breakfast

PLEASE encourage your students to get a breakfast every morning, especially when they come in late. The Texas Hunger Coalition is monitoring our utilization, and the goal is 70%. They will recommend breakfast in the classroom if we don't meet this goal. Right now we are on the border with 69%. If you have ideas on how we can do better, please let Mrs. Helton know!

Hero Night

We will be celebrating our community heroes (present/former military, fire, police, rescue) on Tuesday, October 16 at our next parent engagement event.

Each grade level and/or team will need to plan 1-2 learning activities in either reading, math, or science with a "hero" theme. Document your plans on here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1E241q6eOh4VTSaIH34cx7zDsdTltJIa6OJgLW6agTNo/edit?usp=sharing

Please have your grade level plans submitted by Friday, September 21 so we can get purchases done. If you are not sure about your ideas, come talk to Mrs. Helton. We would love to give out some learning activities to families, so be creative! Oriental Trading is a great place to start.

**If you have ideas on how to incorporate community heroes into our event, please let Mrs. Helton know! Maybe you know a fireman, policeman, veteran, or other hero that would like to share information with our families.

GT Nominations

The window is open for GT nominations! You can access the nomination forms here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jnMoqJ3VxSXZSJsXiJwvJd8cAed8gQ3l?usp=sharing

There are forms in both Spanish and English. We have a LOT of high achieving students that we need to seriously consider for GT this year. Let's get those nominations rolling!

Makerspace

Sign up now for September Makerspace! This month's lesson is well aligned to your properties of matter TEKS for science. Students will explore the properties of play dough and the properties of a "PIrate Cruncher" sea monster that they will create. Here is the link to check out the lessons: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1z_yy7lGJG4AMM2BnLHLeEIlGqG6ICu7mm8gHiZyoBz4/edit?usp=sharing
