4th Grade Young Leaders Program
School Board Meeting
On Monday, February 4th, 2019, Bay Lane Elementary hosted our annual School Board Meeting. Please see the attached presentation, handout, and Fast Facts sheet:
1st and 2nd Grade Author/Illustrator Visit
We are so fortunate to have an author visit our 1st and 2nd graders. Andy Rash’s presentations include dramatic readings, artistic demonstrations, discussions about creating books, and sometimes sing-alongs!
When: Thursday, February 28th
Students will be able to purchase books autographed by the author and the order forms are due by Monday, February 18. If you are interested in purchasing one of the books, please click here for the order form.
Unstinky, starring Bud the Stinkbug, is picture book silliness at its very best. All the other stink bugs smell like sour milk or gym socks, but poor Bud just can’t stink of anything but pine trees and candy canes – though he sure can dance! School Library Journal praised Unstinky, saying “This book will delight young audiences and remind them that it's okay to be yourself and find your own thing.” The illustrations are whimsical, brightly colored, and certain to make kids (and grown-ups) giggle with every reread.
The Happy Book: Camper is happy as a clam, and Clam is a happy camper. When you live in The Happy Book, the world is full of daisies and sunshine and friendship cakes…until your best friend eats the whole cake and doesn’t save you one bite. The characters show that feeling more than one emotion at once is not just okay, it’s part of what it means to be a person in the world. Andy Rash’s signature humor propels this sweet story of friendship forward. Publisher’s Weekly says “Rash’s bright, kinetic art captures the intensity of feelings.”

4K & 5K Registration Information
Attendance
Each month, you have been receiving an email from Infinite Campus detailing your student’s attendance history. All families receive this email even if their child has not been absent from school. The absences are listed as periods and there are 2 periods in an elementary school day (am/pm). This means that if your child was absent 1 full day, the email will report 2 periods. Please email Deanna Welsh, School Social Worker, with any feedback you have (positive or negative).
Good attendance habits in the early grades are strong predictors for future success in high school and beyond.

School Lunch and Recess Schedule and Menu
A message from food service:
Please make sure when sending in money with your child for hot lunch to clearly mark the student's name in the "memo section" of the check or if sending cash, write student's name on the envelope. This ensures the money goes into the family account. Also, when sending money, please discuss with your child the importance of turning funds in right away rather than being held in backpacks, lockers, or folders.
Bay Lane Elementary Staff
Toni Heinowski
Hello Bay Lane Families! My name is Mrs. Toni and I am the K-8 Librarian for the Muskego Norway Schools. I oversee the libraries and help teachers to integrate technology. I am very lucky because I get to work with students and teachers at the elementary and middle school levels. I have worked in Muskego for eight years and previously I worked in the New Berlin School District and Paradise Valley School District in Scottsdale, Arizona. Before becoming a librarian, I was a classroom teacher and I taught all grades K-8th. I am often asked what my favorite grade is and I have to say I like working with all of the age levels.
In my free time, I love to read, garden and go to the movies. My husband and I love to travel and spend time with family and friends at the beach or in our backyard!
