VOGELTOWN SCHOOL

TE KURA O HUATOKI. WEEK 2 TERM 1 2019

SCHOOL GOAL: TO MAKE VOGELTOWN A WELCOMING PLACE TO BE

WHAKAHEI

We are a welcoming school and we want all people to feel safe and happy here

Being a welcoming student you show the school vision of ‘Caring of the people’

Vogeltown is one big ‘whanau’ and we welcome all people to our family

KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O

What a great week we have had at Vogeltown! We had a wonderful 'adventure' on Wednesday as we travelled along our awa (river), the Huatoki, all the way to Puke Ariki. A huge thanks to all the parents/caregivers who helped us out and special thanks to our teaching team who did an amazing job with planning, preparation and professionalism.

The Vogeltown Home and School are busily preparing for the 'Whanau Fun Fiesta' on Thursday night - it would be great to see as many of our families as possible on the night! See the details below about what is on offer.

The front of the senior school is slowly being completed as we put in the new driveway to the hall, close off the current entrance and get ready for the new classroom which will be here in June/July this year. It is going to have a great courtyard feel and we are very lucky to be receiving a new classroom for the school. Keep an eye on how this area develops.

JOIN THE VOGELTOWN BOARD OF TRUSTEES?

This year is election year for all schools to nominate and appoint new Board of Trustees members. We have some of our current BOT leaving us after this term and will not be seeking re-election. This leaves the way for any new members of our community who would like to be part of our Board Of Trustees to think about putting themselves up for election.

If you have never thought about being on the BOT, then now might be the time! It is a great position and an important one to help with the direction and governance decisions of the school.

If you might be keen, please contact Mike Miners, our current Chairperson who would be more than happy to chat with you. Mr Ogle is also available to have a chat.

There is also an NZSTA hui coming up about being on a school BOT if you want to know more - see the details below.

SWIMMING AT VS

We are very lucky to have a school pool at Vogeltown. As part of our PE and Health curriculum, we expect the kids to swim everyday. The teaching staff were part of some professional development on Teacher only day about the swimming curriculum and it encourages water safety, water exploration and water confidence at this age.

Please make sure your child(ren) have their togs ready to go each day, with the weather the way it is currently, we will be making the most of the pool.

If you want to use the pool after school hours, please see the senior office for a key. All keys are $45 ($5 back one key returned at the end of the season). You will be required to sign an agreement with the school - please read the terms and conditions carefully.
