Professional Development
Mastering the Basic Math Facts Workshop
Register for our one-day workshop on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. Due to an overall theme of math computation in our Fall Priority Standards, the Catholic Schools Office would like to help our ADW teachers with strategies to use in their classroom.

Recommended Grade Level: Grades 1 - 4
In today's math classroom, we want children to do more than just memorize math facts. We want them to understand the math facts they are being asked to memorize. Gain insights into the teaching of basic math facts, including a multitude of instructional strategies, teacher tips, and classroom activities to help students master their facts while strengthening their understanding of numbers, patterns, and properties.

Do you want an opportunity to get certificated with other ADW teachers? The Archdiocese of Washington is working in partnership with Notre Dame of Maryland University to provide teacher certification cohorts.
Apply by March 15, 2020 to one of three certification cohorts.

Sessions Announced!
The Archdiocese of Washington is excited to announce our theme of Inclusion for the Spring 2020 Collaboration Day!
Explore the complete list of Breakout Sessions. Due to space restraints, these sessions are limited to classroom size. During this collaboration day, you are asked to select 2 sessions. You will be able to select your sessions when you register. The 3rd session will be with our Plenary Speaker: “Meeting the Social Emotional Needs of Students in Your Classroom”.
Pre-K teachers are encouraged to take an EXCELS credentialing course, instead of multiple sessions.
You will be able to select your sessions when you register. Registration for all dates opens at 6:00 AM on February 11, 2020.

Assessment
Mid-Year Scantron Assessment
The window for the Mid-Year Test is January 2 through February 21, 2020.
- Mandatory testing for newly enrolled students not tested in the fall, and students scoring in Quartiles 1 and 2 on the Baseline Test.
- Recommended for all students in grades 2 through 8 as a progress check.
- Optional for Kindergarten and 1st grade students.

Science Assessment
The Scantron Science Assessment testing window is from April 20, 2020 – May 29, 2020. Students in 5th and 8th grade that are enrolled in a school that has BOOST Scholarship students and required to take this exam. In order to meet all requirements of the scholarship, students will take a nationally normed Science assessment focusing only on Life Science.
The Life Science portion of Performance Series covers items grouped into three units: Living Things, Ecology, and Science Process Skills.

C-Span Summer Job
Are you considering professional development opportunities for next summer? The application process for C-SPAN's Summer Teacher Fellowship is now open.
C-SPAN's Fellowship program is for educators who have experience using C-SPAN's programming in the classroom and can demonstrate innovative methods of incorporating those programs into educational experiences.
For four weeks in July 2020, Fellowship recipients will collaborate with C-SPAN's education team at our offices in Washington, DC to develop new teaching materials using C-SPAN resources. Each Fellow receives a stipend of $7,000 to cover housing, travel and living expenses. Fellows also participate in C-SPAN's Summer Educators' Conferences where they share their ideas and experiences using C-SPAN's programs with conference attendees.

Applications must be received by Friday, March 13, 2020.
Application Requirements
All candidates must be:
- A member of C-SPAN Classroom
- A state certified middle or high school teacher of U.S. History, Civics, Government or related curriculum
- Experienced with integrating C-SPAN's programming and resources into educational curriculum
- Available for four consecutive weeks from July 6 through July 31, 2020
The application for the Summer Educators' Conference will be available in January 2020.

Examining the New Draft of the Social Studies Standards
On Monday, April 27, the new 2020 Social Studies standards will be revealed. One teacher from each school is invited to learn about the changes and bring them back to their school location.
