The Student Activities Council is a student-leadership organization whose mission is to build community among the student body, to bring fun into the school day, and to provide student ownership of school events and activities.
Students at RCHS may propose events and activities to SAC and the council members will vote on which events will best fit the groups’ mission considering time, funds, and participants required, as well as how many students will be served by the activity or event. SAC members will plan and carry out the events for the RCHS student body.
Meetings will be held on Thursdays in room 1114.
Class Projects and Activities
Mrs. Latshaw's Honors Biology I classes have worked on a project for the last couple of weeks. They have been studying macromolecules and how they are used in the body. The Research Question presented to students was
"How can we as scientists research, design, and create a nutritious bar to assist in addressing world hunger?"
Students were required to research a specific area of the globe and find:
- statistics for that specific area on poverty and food distribution
- local native foods grown or imported for that area
- health statistics related to disease, mortality, specific affected populations
In a bar form, students were required to
- create a recipe that contained the necessary FDA requirements for a single meal
- provide a realistic, approximate cost per bar
- create packaging for their bar
- provide a nutrition label
- present the final product
