Principal's Greeting

Happy Friday Norris Staff!

I can hardly believe we are down to nine days remaining. I always say the last month is a blur, with so much excitement and so many events.

Please continue to prioritize high visibility in the hallways and before and after school. That is our biggest asset in being proactive and preventing any issues. And don't forget to find ways to celebrate the successes of our students. Our honors nights and final concerts are great examples of this!

Please check the calendar below for updates on events and activities. I want to highlight our Retirement Tea on Wednesday, May 15, where we will be celebrating the service of Leanna Jurgens, Karen Larson, and Celio Silva.

Thank you for your grace as I was in Switzerland last week (a few pictures below). We had a great time. Montreux is an area known for cheese (obviously) and white wine production. It was pretty mild weather, with lots of sunshine. Again, I appreciate your grace with me in my absence.

Have a great weekend!

No Staff Introductions

I am removing the Staff Introductions portion of the RBR for the rest of the year. I will start over in 19-20 with some fun new questions!

Congrats Jenny Maddock!

Congrats to Jenny Maddock, who was named National College Preparatory Academy (NCPA) Middle Level Educator of the Year! Students from Norris are recommended for NCPA at the 8th grade level, then go onto South High. With successful completion of the program, they earn a free ride to UNL. Huge opportunity. Way to go Maddock!

Powerful Practices

Tech Integration

Mrs. Wagner piloted Gimkit with her students to check their understanding on using words such as your, you're, to, too, etc. Students worked in teams, and loved competing against one another! Great engagement and integration of a new app!

8A Cross-Content Zoo Trip/Project

8A coordinates a cross-curricular research project that involves a trip to the zoo. They are conducting research and creating a promotional video for their biome. This is a huge summative project and involves many components.

Recognizing Students

Our Honors Nights are always a treat. Students are recognized for a variety of awards, including academic excellence, honor roll, Redbird Pride, Thespian of the Year awards, and athletic awards. In addition, we recognized one of our three Redbird scholarship recipients. Esme Rodriguez will be attending UNO and working towards pre-law. She said her success all began with middle school, and she appreciated her teachers that pushed her. Thank you to Katrina Jacobberger for her incredible organization and planning in this event, and all the staff who helped!

Norris Staff and Students Seen and Heard

Happy Birthday 6th Graders!

Mrs. Lodge recognizes 6th graders with birthdays each month! It is a great way for them to feel like they belong and are celebrated. Happy birthday!

Intramural Swim

Ms. Boyer sponsors the intramural swim club for our students who want to continue swimming after the season. She has had a bunch of student participation, and keeps these kiddos swimming all year long!

Ollie Webb Performance

The Ollie Webb organization made a visit to Norris to perform. Ollie Webb helps to provide opportunities for those with special needs, and this group did an awesome performance for our students!

Cinco de mayo

This is really one of my favorite events, and it just makes me beam with Redbird Pride! Our Redbird Posse rocked it at the Cinco de mayo parade on May 4. The crowds were cheering and supporting Norris. Thank you to our sponsors Walker, Borjon, Burse, Hansen, Naeve, as well as Knutson, Bernard, and Silva for coming to help that day. A great event to showcase Norris! You can catch them this Saturday at the Florence Days Parade at 12 p.m.!

Girls Soccer

Our girls soccer team ended the season with a 4-0 win over Hale for 7th place in the city. They played a great last game! Congrats ladies!

Boys Soccer

Our boys soccer team also finished an exciting season with a second place finish in the city. They took Bryan Middle to a shootout and lost in a heartbreaker. What a great season for these boys as well!

Redbirds on the RISE

Congrats to our April/May Redbirds on the RISE! We recognized these students on Thursday with a t-shirt. Way to go!

Final Chorus Concert

Our 7th and 8th grade Chorus students performed in their last concert of the year on Tuesday. Our All City kids even did a special number for the crowd. Wonderful event!
