Nicki Minaj - My Favorite Female Rapper
She even speaks of controversial issues going on in today's society when others turn a blind eye. "Minaj tweeted: "Racism is alive and well", "some people will have to put in work. others get to cut corners. we see it but don't say it. welcome to the real world.", and ultimately, "Continue to strive for GREATNESS."
She speaks out against women oppression saying we are more powerful than we are given credit for. "I just want women to feel in control. Because, we're capable - we're so capable. It's one of the reasons that I have these women that I look up to - because they did not allow being a woman to make them feel like they should settle for less, financially. No, money doesn't mean everything. But it says a lot." This pushed her to strive for more, not just for herself but for her mother as well. "I've always had this female-empowerment thing in the back of my mind," she told Details Magazine, "because I wanted my mother to be stronger, and she couldn't be. I thought 'If I'm successful, I could change her life."
One of her greatest accomplishments was, "After releasing three mixtapes between 2007 and 2009 and being signed to Young Money Entertainment in August 2009, Minaj released her debut album, Pink Friday in November 2010. It quickly became a commercial success, peaking at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and being certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) a month after its release She became the first artist to have seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. Her second single, "Your Love", reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs charts."
She accomplished a lot during her years as a rapper including mixtapes, official albums, and collabs.
One of her major influences was Jay-Z. She used to recite the lyrics to his songs during her high school years. Her favorite family member is her mother.
She is now maturing into the artist she wants to be. “I’m looking forward to her going back to her roots—bar for bar straight lyrical content,” he says. “The last album showed her versatility, how she can make a straight hood/club banger and at the same time still be dominant in the pop industry. Now that she has tested the waters, she’s going back to [what] she enjoyed best.” Says Lil' Wayne about her more natural look now. Interview Magazine even says, "Nicki Minaj might have been born in Trinidad and raised in Jamaica, Queens, but the 25-year-old rapper and one-woman style tornado makes music like she comes from another planet." Her evolving style is influencing her music now more than ever.
