Mileage Club
Spring Break is just around the corner, let’s hope spring follows. With the new season, we are preparing for Mileage Club! Mileage Club is sponsored by Mary Greeley Medical Center and encourages kids to become more physically active and healthy by walking and running at lunch recess during the 8-week program. Students earn toe tokens for every 5 miles of walking or running and a grand prize at 25 miles! We will be walking and running at lunch recesses Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Assuming the weather permits, we’ll begin Thursday, March 27th. We are looking for parent volunteers to help mark cards at these recesses. Grades 3-5 have recess at 11:40-12:00 and K-2 from 12:00-12:20.
Please let Lisa Weary know if you are interested in helping every week, every other week, or even just once or twice during the 8-week period (sept16@msn.com or 292-0488). REMEMBER: Parents, grandparents, and younger siblings are invited to join their child(ren) for walking or running at any time! Thank you for supporting this great opportunity for the students.
GALA Meeting
Gala Meeting: Wednesday, March 12 at 7PM in the South Social Hall at St. Cecilia Church. Many volunteers are needed to help out in the next 7 weeks. Please join us to get “in” on this exciting event!P

Catholic School Board
Due to a resignation, please see below for the revised Catholic School Board Roster.
Rice Bowls
This year, St. Cecilia school and parish will be again be participating in Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowl. Each student has received a rice bowl with a calendar and envelope inside of it in their Friday Folder. The cardboard Rice Bowl is the traditional tool used to collect Lenten alms. The calendar provides families with daily reflections, weekly prayers, meatless recipes, and stories of hope from around the world.
Each Monday of Lent, during announcements, we will focus on a specific location of those noted in your materials. On Friday, April 18th, students may return their rice bowls as they will be collected during our Stations of the Cross, Good Friday Service.
For individuals not familiar with the program, CRS is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. It was founded in 1943 by the Catholic Bishops of the United States to serve World War II survivors in Europe. CRS Rice Bowl is Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten program that encourages participants to fast, pray, and give during Lent.
CRS Rice Bowl began under the name “Operation Rice Bowl” in 1975. In 1977, Operation Rice Bowl became the official Lenten program of Catholic Relief Services. In 2012, the program name was changed to CRS Rice Bowl.
CRS Rice Bowl supports hunger and poverty alleviation efforts in communities around the world, as well as in your own local community. 25 percent of donations go to hunger and poverty alleviation efforts in our diocese. 75 percent of gifts support CRS’ programs around the world. Some examples include:
- Agriculture projects help farmers improve harvests
- Water and sanitation projects bring clean water to communities
- Microfinance projects support small businesses
- Mother and child health projects offer health and nutrition services
- Education projects provide resources and training
Please look for rice bowl information in the parish’s weekly church bulletins. There is also a lot of excellent information at www.crsricebowl.org including a CRS Rice Bowl app.
