English Language Arts (ELA)
The kindergarten ELA program is dividing into different components. Below is a description of each component and what your child will be learning the upcoming week.
Daily Message
This week in Daily Message we will...
- edit the daily message by finding and fixing the errors.
- find the noun and/or verb in the message.
- find sight words we have learned in the message.
Word Work
This week in Word Work we will...
- blend word parts to identify and say a word
- identify and write upper case and lower case i.
- identify short vowel sounds a and i in words .
- learn sight words: “to” and “it”
Shared Reading
This week in Shared Reading we will...
- identify the problem and solution of a story.
- use print size to identify how loudly or softly to read.
- identify quotation marks and their purpose.
- dramatize a story.
Grammar/Writing
This week in Grammar/Writing we will...
- share ideas by drawing, writing, and/or dictating.
- identify and write in a speech bubble.
- complete a sentence by writing a word.
- end a sentence with a an end mark (., !, or ?).
- draw pictures that match spoken contributions.
Math
Unit 2: Counting and Comparing
- compare two objects to determine which is longer.
- sort objects into two categories according to length.
- develop language for comparing quantities (more, greater, less, fewer, most, least, fewest, same and equal to)
Content
This week in content we will...
- learn ways to care for our body.
- learn ways to keep myself healthy.
- practice handwashing while singing Twinkle, Twinkle or the alphabet.

Birthdays will be celebrated once a month in the classroom. Our designated birthday days are listed below. Children will celebrate with extra recess (3:00-3:30). Parents are invited to join us during this time.
