Swanson Elementary

April 1, 2021 Home of the Squirrels!

Principal's Corner

Greetings Swanson Families,

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. It's so nice to have longer days, warmer weather, and the snow melting. Hard to believe we are in the 4th quarter of school already!

Every day my heart is full of joy greeting students in the halls and hearing them share their accomplishments in school. This past week I had a rewarding time playing at recess with the students, observing them play with each other and making friends.

One of my favorite stories is Leo the Late Bloomer. It's been an honor, as your Swanson Principal, to watch our little Swanson Squirrels all bloom in their own time this past school year. Another favorite time of day for me is walking into classroom and hearing students read, problem solve with their classmate during math, write stories, and explore learning.

The end of this month is MAP and aimswebPlus testing. I am eager to review our schoolwide data and measure academic growth. Even during a pandemic, we have high expectations and it's a joy to watch our children soar to success. I'll share our data in the May newsletter.

In partnership and support,

Mrs. Halfacre

Principal

Covid-19 Updates and Information

Greetings Parents,

Thank you so much for keeping your child home when you notice symptoms and contacting our school nurse if you have a positive test. All these proactive measures help us do our part to notify families and prepare for remote learning. When we have a positive case that involves your child's class you will receive a text message and an email notifying you that your child is a potential close contact. After Public Health completes the contact tracing another email will be sent noting dates your child can return to school. If you have any questions or concerns please call the office or feel free to contact our school nurse Hazel O'Neill.

Ready, Set, Grow ~ May 13th Title 1 Event

I'm often asked the question, "How can I help my child get ready for school next year?" Knowing parents want to support their children and as a school we want to support our families, it's with excitement to announce our first annual "Ready, Set, Grow" Title 1 event for May 13th. Weather pending, this activity will be outdoors (Swanson Playground) and families will have the opportunity to visit teachers and gather materials/activities to work on over the summer to prepare for school next year. Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade and Sherrod, who will join us for Third Grade, as the main event along with Mrs. Evans sharing her passion for literacy.

More information will be in our May Newsletter.
