All About Alloway
Alloway Township School's E-Newsletter ~ September 2019
Character Trait for September: RESPECT
We have three events to welcome students and families to our school. The 3rd annual 'Welcome Back Open House' for all students and their families was on Wednesday, August 28. We had 100 students and their families (returning and new) attend this event. The 'Meet & Greet' for our Pre-K through 2nd grade students and their families was held on September 4. Our youngest and newest students had the opportunity to become familiar with their teacher, the school, their peers, and their classroom.
The traditional 'Back-to-School Night' is for grades 3 through 8, and it is on Wednesday, September 18th 7:00-8:30. Parents follow their student's schedule in order to learn about their forthcoming year. This event is intended for a parent/guardian audience. If you intend to attend this event and need child care, our SACC leaders and students from WHS National Honor Society will provide it for free! We simply require that you sign your children up ahead of time so we can prepare accordingly. Use the link to our SignUp Genius to register your children for Back-to-School Night child care at our school.
We are looking forward to an exciting year at ATS. Welcome!
Individual Student Reports for the Spring 2019 NJSLA can be picked up at BTSN on 9/18 in the main office.

Supplemental Opportunities for Academic Resources (SOAR)
Grades K-5 have a period called "Tiger Time" for individualized instruction during the school day. Students who need support in math and/or language arts will receive SOAR during this period. SOAR is provided by two teachers: Mrs. DeFebo for language arts and Mrs. Murphy for math. Students who qualify for SOAR language arts and/or math are pulled out for small group instruction with the SOAR teacher.
Our elementary math curriculum uses McGraw Hil as a resource. McGraw Hill's Number Worlds has supplemental materials designed to make the grade-level standards accessible to students, and these materials are resources for SOAR math. Fountas and Pinnell (F&P) is considered the "gold standard" for literacy materials at the elementary level. Our SOAR language program has F&P's Leveled Literacy Intervention kits that provide students with 12 weeks of additional guided reading sessions. SOAR for middle school students is provided as push-in support.
If you child meets the criteria to be served by this program, you will receive a letter as notification. If you do not want your child to receive this support, please indicate your wishes in writing to Kristin Schell (email@example.com) There will be an informational meeting for parents of students receiving SOAR, a Title 1 funded program, on September 30 @ 6:00.
