Kids are Kind of a Big Deal Around Here!
Congratulations to Miranda Ward, our AMAZING librarian for winning the GEFFE Shining Star award for her grant which purchased our book vending machine! Our kids love picking their own books from the machine and can earn tokens for the machine when showcasing amazing character. We love Mrs. Ward and her passion for reading is contagious!
Character Counts Students
Each year our cook, Ms. Nancy makes HUGE stockings and our staff fills them with prizes. She makes one for a boy, one for a girl, and one for a staff member. Teachers nominate Character Counts students from each class and we draw for the winners. Congratulations to Katelyn Vang, 4th grade and Hagen Sumter, 5th grade for winning the stockings this year.
It's Kindness Month at GUE! We have challenged the kids to cover the school with kind acts. For each kind act witnessed, students get a link in the chain. Our goal is to create a chain that stretches the length of the school. There are no prizes involved, we are just trying to build a habit of kindness among our students. The challenge ends February 12, 2021, just in time for Valentine's Day!
Our day custodian, Mr. Gary is a HUGE KC Chiefs fan and last year created "Gary's Kids". This year, on Fridays, we wear our Chiefs gear before their big game of the week! Gary gives all of the kids, even fans of other teams, candy for wearing their gear.
We love Mrs. Manning! She does a wonderful job supporting our students with their emotional needs! Her loving and kind spirit makes her a great counselor! Happy Counselor's Week, Mrs. Manning!
Be Fit and Read!
Coach Hacker and Mrs. Ward teamed up in February with a Be Fit and Read challenge for students AND staff! For every 30 minutes of reading or physical activity a student does outside of school they earn a ticket. Tickets are entered into a drawing for fun prizes! These girls won Under Armour water jugs for winning the fitness challenge.
