St. Mike's Matters - Thursday Notes
February 9, 2018 Issue #18
Dear St. Michael Families,
Thank you for your incredible support of Catholic Schools Week! Highlights from last week include Open House, the National Geographic Bee, the school party at Skateland, the family pizza picnic, our vocations fair, and the dance lessons from Mrs. Cash on Friday. Wow, what a week! Our sock drive generated over 1,500 pairs of socks total, which have been donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the parish prison ministry. After such a spirit-filled week, we have successfully transitioned back into our school routines.
Thank you for your participation in Catholic Schools week and for all that you do to support Catholic education!
Through our community’s generosity, last year’s Fund-A-Need for the S.M.A.R.T. Gala enabled each classroom to receive a state-of-the-art Promethean ActivPanel. What a blessing! These boards have had a direct impact on teaching, learning, and student engagement during their daily use. The Fund-A-Need for this year’s gala will also focus on a key aspect of the classroom environment used every day by our students.
I am so excited to share our Fund-A-Need for our May 5th S.M.A.R.T. Gala, “Cinco on the Sand”. The Fund-A-Need for the gala will be creative seating solutions for students throughout the school. We will be replacing our current student desks with newer desks and chairs that take into account the different learning styles and needs of our students. Current examples of creative seating in our school are the tall desks with swing bars in 5th grade to help kinesthetic learners, and the long tables with plastic chairs in 8th grade/ELA to aid collaborative learning. I am working with our S.M.A.R.T. chairs and the teachers to research all of our options and create a plan for each classroom, with a priority to ensure that there is uniformity and consistency in seating among some adjacent classrooms. The specific plan will be shared prior to the gala. Thank you for your support of this exciting project!
Blessings,
Connor Geraghty
Principal
