MLK DAY OF SERVICE

On Monday, hundreds of students and staff gathered at Council Rock High School South, in the frigid temperatures and wintery mix to honor the Martin Luther King Day of Service. For the 15th year in a row, we celebrate the legacy of Dr. King with a DAY ON. The morning began with a large group assembly that recognized the winners of the MLK essay contest, including our very own, Jimmy Clark. After the assembly, students worked in groups to prepare care packages, make blankets and pack these items for homeless shelters in our area.

A HUGE THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR DONATIONS!

Each year we are fortunate to have several Hillcrest student volunteers assist with this worthwhile cause. The following students & teachers took time on their “day off” to volunteer and organize supplies.

Human Growth and Development

As part of the yearly health curriculum fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students receive instruction on human growth and development this spring. Classes will be taught by the Physical Education teacher and the school nurse. We understand that these can be difficult conversations to have with your students, but they are of great importance to our children’s health. Additional resources for parents are provided in the letter (at the following LINK) the grade level topics if you are looking to further these conversations at home.

Guidance News

As many of you know Dr. Sandberg, our beloved Guidance Counselor, will be taking a leave of absence starting on January 31st for the remainder of the school year. We have been working tirelessly to secure a replacement in her absence. We are pleased to announce that the Board has approved our Recommendation to Hire, Michaela Krugar. Michaela has hit the ground running and has already partnered with Dr. Sandberg on transition activities. Dr. Sandberg and Ms. Krugar will continue to partner to ensure a smooth transition for our school community over the next two weeks. Ms. Krugar is excited about this opportunity and eager to begin working with students, families and staff. Her official starting date is Thursday, January 27th.

Meet Ms. Krugar

Hello Hillcrest! My name is Michaela Krugar and I am looking forward to meeting the students, staff, and families at HCE! Given this opportunity I would like to share a little bit about my background and experience working with children. I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Bloomsburg University in 2016. Then I became a Therapeutic Support Staff member working with the special needs population for a little over 2 years in multiple school settings. I loved working in the school environment so I decided to continue my education and earned my Masters of Science in School Counseling at Holy Family University in 2021. This past year I have worked as a School Counselor for CORA Services to support students within non-public schools in the city of Philadelphia. I am eager to start working at Hillcrest Elementary to support their mission and continue to create a student community of life-long learners!
