Jayhawk Family Update
May 22 - 26

Dear Families,
Wow! We've had a jam-packed week of fun here at Joyceville! Our week started off with a school-wide visit to The Dragon Dome!!! This inflatable planetarium was set up in the gym with the company called Astronomy In Action! This on-site "field trip" was organized and brought to us compliments of our JPS BINGO Committee!! Pictures don't do this amazing program justice! Students and staff alike gave this program and experience a 10/10! Such a great opportunity to learn more about our amazing planet!
On Tuesday, our Kindergarten Team hosted Discover Kindergarten in LDSB. We welcomed our newest learners to the school as they are gearing up to start JK in September here at Joyceville! The students explored play centres, a variety of activities, and also had their very first ride on a School Bus! We look forward to welcoming our new students and families in September! Registration for JK remains open so if you, your family or friends have a child who will be 4 years old by Dec. 31, 2023, remind them to register for Junior Kindergarten!
And...the fun didn't end there! On Wednesday, we participated in the Celebration of Dance! A shout out to Mrs. Lavergne who, with her high energy and enthusiasm, lead our school during the Celebration of Dance, an initiative organized by KFLA Public Health. Many schools across Kingston participated in learning and performing a choreographed series of dances and we had a great time coming together dancing our hearts out! Earlier in the year a group of JPS students were involved in filming one of the set dances for this event and the video was used for students across Kingston to follow and learn some awesome dance moves! Congrats Joyceville - we can't wait to dance together again!
We are also excited to share that we are deep into learning and focusing on the Science of Reading at Joyceville. Many new resources have made their way into our classrooms and our educators are learning and working to bring researched based teaching techniques and strategies that target literacy gaps in reading and writing. Big thanks to our dedicated team for their passion for continued learning and diving into resources so that we are doing what is best for kids. See below for online and free decodable books that children can use at home, if interested.
Track & Field participants have been working hard this week training for a number of events. If your child is participating in Track & Field on May 26th, you would have received information on School-Day to sign permission forms and submit payment to confirm participation in this LESAA event. Please contact your child's track & field event coach if you have any questions!
Coming next week, the Grade 4/5's have been working hard to organize and host a Joyceville Candy Sale! Students are invited to shop at the Candy Sale, which will take place on May 25th. Grab bags of candy will be sold for $1 each and students are allowed to buy up to a maximum of 5 bags. All candy is nut free. Thank you for your support.
Also, another shout out and THANK YOU to our BINGO committee - they have generously added some new picnic tables to our yard for our staff and students to use and enjoy outside! Thank you BINGO and to the crew recruited for building and setting them up! Much appreciated!
And finally, Country Fair is almost here! Thanks to all of the families that have been donating items to be included in the class theme baskets! The planning committee is still accepting donations - so feel free to send them in! See message below!
Wishing our amazing Joyceville families a wonderful long weekend ahead and we'll see you back at school on Tuesday May 23!
Happy Weekend everyone!
Jean Paquin, Principal & Amie Domingo, Vice Principal
