Marian Central Catholic High School - August 7, 2020
From the Desk of Mr. Mike Shukis
One of my observations through my first year at Marian Central was to discover or uncover how much talent, potential and leadership that our faculty does indeed possess. It is very important for Marian Central to better utilize the strengths of our faculty and staff and to grow from within. Therefore, I am very proud to announce that Mr. Brad Williams, Mr. Benji Winkelman and Fr. Twenty will all become part-time Deans of Students (yes, I changed the title from Assistant Principal to Dean of Students) while also teaching in their respective areas. These three gentlemen will be in charge of discipline, attendance and school activities.
I have also made a change to Ms. Novy's title and job responsibilities. Ms. Novy will be Marian Central's new Director of Curriculum & Professional Development. This is an area of strength and expertise for Ms. Novy, and I feel our school will greatly benefit by having her focus her efforts and talent in these areas. As you will notice, this leaves vacant the title of Principal. All areas of the school are still covered and we now will have our Administration utilizing their strengths to their fullest.
To better communicate with our families, I have developed a Communication Chain. It shows who best to call depending on the situation and circumstance. For example, Ms. Novy should be called with any questions regarding classroom instruction, grades and tests. Mr. Williams, Mr. Winkelman and Fr. Twenty should be called for discipline and behavior issues. Please look over the Communication Chain as I believe it will help us all to better communicate more effectively with each other.
We are excited to enter into the 2020-2021 school year!

Ordering lunch - Marian Central Cafeteria
Lunch selections must be placed prior to 7:00 am on the day desired. For example, a student wishing lunch on Tuesday must order between 7:01 am on Monday and 7:00 am on Tuesday to receive lunch on Tuesday. Orders placed after 7:00 am on a given day will be counted for the following school day. Orders should be placed through the Marian Central website. All purchases will still be deducted through the student's Mealtime account. https://www.marian.com/students/cafeteria-menu/.

Emergency Contact Information
It is imperative that we confirm the demographic and emergency information we have on file for each student. This includes up-to-date parent contact information.
In order to accomplish this, an online update form was sent to each family.
The online form presents the information that is currently on file and asks for confirmation of each piece of information. The form also allows for changes and updates as needed. Please check your email for this important information and respond as soon as possible.
If you have any questions or have any difficulty submitting the form, please contact Mrs. DiSilvio at ldisilvio@marian.com. Thank you for your cooperation in our efforts to keep our files up to date.

College Planning Events
College Application Night, scheduled for Monday, August 17th at 6:30 PM, will be held as a virtual event. Please watch your E-mails for instructions about how to view the presentation at home on a computer. Again, all seniors and their families are encouraged to participate in this program; we’ll be covering a lot of information about the “who, what, when, where, why, and how” of college applications at Marian. Remember that a great deal has changed since I took over in the Fall of 2018! So even if you’ve been through this before with a family member before then, chances are things are very different now.
Mark your calendars for Financial Aid Information Night. This program is taking place on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30 PM. At this point, this program will also be virtual, but stay tuned in case we’re able to switch it over to an in-person event. This event is geared more toward parents than students…so students, you’re off the hook for this one! Our presenter will be Susan Teerink, the Director of Student Financial Services at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Susan does a fantastic job explaining how the FAFSA calculates a family’s need and answers many questions about need-based financial aid.
